𝐒𝐄𝐏𝐓𝐄𝐌𝐁𝐄𝐑, 𝟐𝟎𝟏𝟎"How is it that we told Ali everything and she didn't tell us anything?"
Aria's words sting—as the truth often does. Bellamy always thought that her friendship with Alison went both ways. Surely, they all felt that way. She just assumed that because she'd been friends with Ali the longest, that their bond would be different. But, as Aria so tactfully pointed out, nothing was a two-way street with Alison DiLaurentis.
Finding out that Alison had not only been seeing someone that summer, but that Spencer knew about it hurts in its own way. Just another thing that Spencer has over her—one of Ali's real secrets.
"Because she made us feel like we were apart of something special," Bellamy suggests, taking a sip of her Pepsi.
"We were," says Hanna. Emily fiddles with the friendship bracelet on her wrist—the one Ali gave them all. "I can't believe you still wear that."
"Ali still wears hers." Emily's tone is immediately, and understandably, defensive. "Wore hers."
"I always imagined that Ali would just show up one day," Spencer admits.
"When I was in New York I fully believed that she'd be waiting for me when I moved back to Rosewood," Bellamy says.
Aria smiles fondly. "I used to think she'd run off with some guy."
"That she was laying on a beach somewhere—"
"Getting a tan with that hot lifeguard who worked at the pool." Hanna laughs. She pitches up her voice for the impression and adds, "'Save me!'"
For a few moments, it feels like old times. Bellamy even catches Spencer's eye and smiles, genuinely. Even in death, Ali's antics bring the girls together.
They're yanked from the mirth by the sound of a cane scraping along the ground. Bellamy's breath catches, and she can tell that each of her friends are holding theirs as well.
Without another word to each other, the five girls slip out of their chairs and throw cash on the table before hurrying out of the Apple Rose Grille. After the door is shut firmly behind them, they all turn to each other.
"Isn't it a little suspicious that Jenna came back and we started getting texts from A?" Emily asks.
"If Jenna is A then this is about revenge." Aria's sharp gaze bore through the restaurant window at the back of Jenna's head.
Hanna rolls her eyes. "If she's A, that means she has help—and we are double screwed."
The girls say their goodbyes and split off in their different directions. Bellamy and Hanna walk to Hanna's car in silence.
"That's for giving me a ride home," Bellamy says once they get in. "Hopefully my mom's car comes back from the shop ASAP so I can have mine back."
