SURROUNDED BY THOUGHTS
Another day
I sit
At home
Thinking about the boy
That I had abandoned
All those years ago
I stand up
Because I have to go to work now
And it can't wait
For me to
Mope around
All day
Every day
CATCH ME AT THE DOOR
Always as I'm just leaving the house
Do I get visitors
Today, it's raining
And I am pulling on
A raincoat
And getting
An umbrella
When somebody rings the doorbell
Which I have
Just installed
I shed the coat
And open the doorHE'S BACK
A man stands in the doorway
He isn't fourteen anymore
He stands with a woman
And he has a beard
And carries himself
Like a survivor
I drop the umbrella
And leap into his open arms
Rudy!
I cry
Cécile
He replies
The woman introduces herself, too
As Marion
I shake her hand
And thank the heavens
They're both alivePESSIMISM
I would never have forgiven myself
If I hadn't seen Rudy again
My pessimistic mind
Would have never
Let me believe
That they had lived
But now they're here
With freedom
And rights
And Rudy has reunited
With Morsi
