Living far away

Chapter 7

Bucky and Rylie watched some comedy from the 80's. Afterwards Bucky left and Rylie finally slept after a few days of not even closing her eyes for more than 2 seconds. When she wakes up her thoughts are much clearer.

"Miss Thompson, Mr. Stark asked me to send you to the meeting room once you were up", the voice of FRIDAY calls out.

"Thanks, FRIDAY."

She walks to the meeting room after eating some breakfast. The team is already there, this time Bruce Banner and Thor have also joined them.

"Banner, Point Break, here's the second saved HYDRA experiment", Tony says to introduce her.

Both Rylie and Bucky send him a glare.

Thor walks over and holds out his hand. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Lady Rylie!"

"Nice to meet you too, Thor. And just Rylie is fine", Rylie answers, shaking his hand.

"Of course!"

Bruce also walks over and shakes her hand too. "Hello. Nice to meet you, Rylie."

"Nice to meet you too, dr. Banner." Rylie then turns to Tony. "You didn't only bring me here to introduce me to them, am I right?"

Tony chuckles. "No, we didn't. We wanted to get you into the Avengers officially, but a few seconds before you got here Fury sent me a message, telling me we couldn't."

"That's right." Fury walks in as if the whole situation was planned. "We can't risk it."

"She is no danger, Fury", Bucky interjects.

"She is. HYDRA wants her, they will come to find her."

"How would you know that?" Tony asks.

"I got this video this morning. FRIDAY, show them", Fury says.

A video appears on a wall, that is again a screen. It shows the famous Brock Rumlow, with his burned face.

"Hello, SHIELD and I'm sure the Avengers too. We've got word two of our best people got into your hands. No, I am not talking about Killian and Louise. I'm talking about the Winter Soldier and our dear Rylie. Don't worry, we'll get them back, whatever it takes. And maybe we might also just take the Maximoffs too."

The video ends and Fury speaks again. "We need to get all of them to a safer location. We can't bring the Avengers or SHIELD in danger. This is not open for discussion."

"You want to put them in a bunker? For how long? We need them to find out the locations of the HYDRA bases, Fury", Steve says.

"We'll put them there as long as needed. Get the twins. SHIELD will get them to a secure location", Fury says and then walks away.

"What the fuck? They're just going to hide us?" Bucky says.

"We can't argue with him, Buck", Steve mentions.

"So you're just going to let us get put in a bunker?" Rylie asks.

Steve sighs. "I really don't want to, but I think we don't have a choice."

"Are you kidding me, Steve? I'm not letting me put myself in a bunker", Rylie interjects.

"She does have a point, Capsicle", Tony says. "I wouldn't mind Barnes out of here, but we can't lose an asset like Rylie."

Bucky fights the urge to roll his eyes.

"If HYDRA wants them, we better put them safe, Tony. You know Fury's right", Steve says. It seems like he really won't change his ideas.

Tony rolls his eyes in annoyance. "I don't give a fuck he's right. It's HYDRA! We fought bigger than that!"

"And how many would we risk on the way? We can't lose more innocent lives." Steve's tone indicates he won't argue more. "Romanoff, get the twins. Buck, Rylie, go pack. Now."

Natasha nods and Rylie and Bucky follow, not wanting to get into a discussion with Steve. Rylie takes the few things she hadn't even unpacked yet from her home.

"Fucking Capsicle..."

Rylie turns around and sees Tony standing in her doorway. "I'm gonna miss you, kid. Don't get too close with the cyborg."

Rylie smiles. "Can't promise anything."

Tony smiles back. "Here, I got you something." He tossed her a watch, which she easily caught. "You can always contact one of us with that, even in space. Theoretically, of course, I haven't tested it in space yet."

"Thanks, Tony."

Before Tony can say something back, Steve appears behind him. "Fury wants to leave."

Rylie nods. "I'm coming."

The three of them walk to the entrance hall of the tower, where the twins, Bucky and Fury are already waiting. Pietro looks ready to attack Fury, but Wanda keeps a hand on his shoulder as if to keep him under control. Fury leads them outside to an armed vehicle with the SHIELD logo on.

"Very secret", Tony mumbles.

Pietro and Wanda get into the car, while Bucky says some things to Steve.

"I'll miss you, kid, and that means a lot, I barely miss people. For example, I won't miss Barnes", Tony tells Rylie.

"I'll miss you too, Tony", Rylie responds.

Bucky and Rylie finally get into the vehicle and they drive for a long while. When they arrive, they all get out and seem to be in the middle of a forest. Agent Hill and Fury lead the group to a hidden entrance deeper in the forest. They have to go through a long corridor until they reach another metal door. When it opens it reveals a cozy-ish sitting room.
