French toast and cartoons early in the morning
The dog tucks herself underneath a blanket
And my coffee sputters and bubbles while it brewsFresh dew sits silently on our lawn and tanagers sit on our windowsills eating their seeds, while the sun warms the southern side of our home
We will read books, draw pictures, play games, do chores, and just be together
Sharing our time and love in a simple, human way
And all the while, I hope that I remember this
I hope I remember this when my bones grow fragile, brittle and small
I hope I remember this when you sneak out late and get into trouble with your friends
I hope that I remember this when it all feels so impossible
I hope that I remember this when I wonder if I am doomed to repeat my own history
I hope that I remember this, because I love you
And I never want you to wonder if I do
