PRESENT TIMEIris Carrow looks out the Hogwarts Express train window, smiling as a wave of nostalgia fills her heart. She closes her eyes, leaning on the comfortable chair as she takes a deep breath, soothing her nervousness. She doesn't understand why she is so nervous. Iris was already a teacher at a famous American school, and a good one at that. Her students loved her. Her teaching is not the problem, so what could be the cause of this anxiety? She looked down at her wrist, checking the time.
Dumbledore informed her that the feasts would start at 6:30 pm and that she was expected to be there by then. The train arrived by 5 pm which gave her the perfect amount of time to unpack.
Iris closes her eyes once more, thinking about how excited she used to be before coming back to school after summer break. She never really had a good life back home. Her alcoholic aunt looked after her when her parents died in a tragic accident involving death eaters and the English ministry.
Her parents were American but decided to come to the UK when they got job offers to join the English ministry. Her dad was a part of the Ministry's law department and her mother the same. The two voted yes on a bill that helped Muggle-borns and allowed them to pay less taxes on magical goods, as did many other members of the ministry at the time. However, once the death eaters got word of this, they decided to attack.
Iris was orphaned during her 5th year here which took a toll on the girl's mental health, Because of this, she became intolerable. She would play pranks on others, especially Lily Potter. She remembers hearing about the girl's death and having mixed emotions about it. The two weren't close, no they were far from it. But Iris would never in a million years wish for someone's death. At the same time, she couldn't help but feel relieved when she heard about the Dark lord's death. During this time she decided to leave the UK for good.
The train comes to a sudden halt, causing Iris to jump. She stares out the window and notices she's arrived. She sighs, standing up from her seat and using her wand to cast a levitation spell on her bag. She grabs hold of her luggage, fixing her wavy black hair before walking out of the train. She jumps down and notices the curious looks given to her by the students. She smiles at them, looking around until she notices a pair of green eyes that remind her of someone she used to know.
The green eyes lock eye contact with her brown eyes, raising a brow as he turns to two other people. He nudges at them which causes them to turn and look at Iris themselves. They talk amongst each other, smiling at her before walking away.
Iris thinks for a moment on who it could possibly be. Her eyes widen as she realizes why she remembered those eyes. "Those are Lily's eyes," She mutters under her breath, still staring at the direction that the boy walked off in. "So thats..."
"Harry Potter," a deep voice finishes the sentence for her. She turns to the source of the voice, noticing a man with shoulder length hair and a scowl. She remembers that scowl very well.
"Severus," She gives him an innocent looking smile laced with sarcasm. "How good to see you!"
"How utterly thrilling to bask in your sarcasm," He replies raising his brow at her, seeing straight through her lie. He crosses his arms in front of his chest, looking down at Iris with displeasure.
"Still haven't changed, Snivellous," Iris scoffs, rolling her eyes. "Why are you even talking to me?"
"Dumbledore told me to direct you to your rooms," Severus states tiredly, fixing the cuffs of his sleeves as he briskly turns. His long legs quickly walk away from Iris, causing the girl to run to catch up to him.
"Merlin, do you have to walk so fast?" She tells him, panting as she struggles to keep up.
"Do you have to walk so slow?" Snape retorts, earning an annoyed groan from Iris.
