"Why did we have to move literally across the country? Was a few states not enough?"

Tara questioned her mother for what felt like the 10th time. Reluctantly hauling her bags through the house and to the car.

"Tara, we talked about this. This is your fault, "

Although she knew this, she still didn't understand it. Getting kicked out of all 6 high schools didn't mean they had to move across the country. This honestly felt like the end of her world. Leaving what she knew as home, where she grew up, where her father was. The thought of leaving it all behind haunted Tara but it was just too late.

Tara and her mother sat quietly through the drive, it was a solid 7 hours long. Tara sat in the back watching the trees fly past her.

"Now Ta, you know the rules from now, yes?"

Tara sighed, making eye contact with her mother in the mirror.

"Number 1 no parties, number 2 no drugs or drinking, and grand number 3 no boys. Feel like I'm 12 again, honestly. "

As the car pulled up to the driveway of their new home, the sun had begun to set. It was a simple townhouse, 1 story, cute garden and 2 bedrooms. All they needed. Especially since it was just the two of them.

After her dad committed suicide and Tara found him, she went off the rails. At only 14 years old, she was sneaking out every night, partying, doing any drug she could get her hands on, mixing and dealing with random baches. Her mom can't remember how many times she's had to collect her from the hospital. It became so frequent that the nurses there had their protocol for Tara. Her mother was no longer sympathetic. She could only help her so much without hurting her mental health. So she gave up, and let Tara do all those things. As mentioned before, this led to her getting removed from every high school in the state and neighboring states.

Tara was observing the surrounding areas, watching teens roam the streets as she was settling into her new home. Her skin and brain were just itching for some kind of fix, although she didn't know any of the dealers in the region. Her mother had done a complete TSA bag check on her before they left, so unfortunately, she had absolutely nothing on her. No drugs, no blades, and no alcohol so she was at a complete loss.

She spent the night scrolling her phone, adding random people on Snapchat, and decorating her space. She was sure to leave no wall empty either with posters or paintings. On the ceiling, she hung LED lights and was finally satisfied. Since it was New Year she assumed there'd be a party tonight somewhere in this town. She just had to go.
