She marched her way to the door and grasped the cold metal handle.

'Oh shit' she thought. As she saw a curly-haired guy snorting off a washing machine.

"Are those drugs?"

She stood up straight, holding onto the door frame.

"My God, can people stop barging on my drugs?"

The boy sighed, relaxing on the floor. He looked up at the girl and observed her features.

"Not a first, huh? Can I join"

Tara reached into her pocket and showed off her collection of drugs. Careful to ensure her blade didn't fall out, too.
The boy, who she was yet to know the name of, gestured for her to sit next to him. As she closed the door, she saw another girl sitting on the floor with her head tilted up.

"I'm not interrupting?"

She spoke, questioning the boy as she sat on the cold tile next to him. Noticing the tattoos scattered on his body, including his face and neck.

"Nah, we just met. Names Elliot."

"Tara. What's her name"

They both looked at the barely conscious girl.

"Rue"

The three spent hours talking. They had migrated to the fire pit outside. Mostly Elliot and Tara talking while Rue took advantage of the drugs. Drugs weren't the escape Tara was quite looking for tonight, but it was nice to have some company. Rue's attention was eventually stolen by some blonde. Tara could feel the tension so she wasn't going to interrupt them.

As the Countdown neared for New Year's, they decided it was time to head out. Rue mentioned she had a ride set up and was gone in a beat. Leaving the other two alone. They walked through the tense crowd. The pair were oblivious to their surroundings. Tara instinctively grabbed his hand to ensure they didn't lose each other. She was too intoxicated to notice if there was a deeper meaning behind that.

Finally feeling the cold air against her lungs, she felt she could breathe again.

"Do you need a ride?"

Elliot's voice caught her away from her thoughts. He held up his keys, jingling them a little.

"Oh, I'm only like a 5-minute walk away. It's fine. "
