"Do you know how hard I tried to be a good mother to you?"

Taras' mother spoke quietly. Her hands firmly gasped on the kitchen bench, her head hung low.

"Yeah, whatever."

Tara didn't even look at her. She didn't need to be reminded about the disappointment she's caused. She is well aware. Tara tried to walk down the hall to her room before being stopped.

"Don't walk away from me!"

"What more could you possibly do? we already moved HALFWAY ACROSS THE GODDAMN COUNTRY"

"Tiera Flynn Jasper, you will no-"

"Don't you dare use that name!"

At this point, they were standing inches away from each other. Shaking with anger neither would give up. Tara stared into her mother's eyes as they filled with tears. Her frustration and anger with her daughter taking over. She took a deep breath and walked away from Tara.

“Hit me I dare you”

Tara knew her mother wouldn't dare which is why she pushed the boundaries.

"I did what I could. If you get yourself killed, I have no remorse. "

She watched as her mother walked through the kitchen and into the living room. Picking up family photos along the way.
She was destroying the evidence of the family they once were.

“You act like you're the only one in pain!! Your husband may be gone”

Tara paused following as her mother walked through the house. The subject of her father always brought tears to her eyes.

“But I lost my father, and since that you have been nothing but selfish.”

"If you want to leave, go for it, but don't you dare come back to me for help when you need it."

"I would do everything to avoid coming back to you."

Tara marched to her room, making a mental list of everything she needed. She had the option to leave and she's gonna take it. She threw as many clothes into her bag that she could fit. Ensuring she had a phone charger, she made sure to grab at least one photo of her father before glancing at the room one last time. She only spent 12 hours here.

--------

Nothing more was said between the mother - daughter duo. They both had nothing left to say. Her mother had lost hope in her daughter and was destroying her own mental health trying to help her. She would rather let her go than watch her die.

Tara, however, felt released. She could do whatever she wanted to. Nothing was holding her back anymore.

She breathed in the early morning dew and watched as the sun began to slowly rise. After leaving her mother, she had climbed up a hill and had been sitting since. She knew she was going to go to Elliots at some point since he was the only one she knew in this damn town. But she didn't want to show up at 4:30 am. She was still itching for relief, although she had yet to find a dealer. She took a deep sigh, digging through her pockets and finally pulling out her trusty blade and pulling it against her dainty left wrist. 'Aha shit,' she laughed as she felt the relief wash over her.
As much as Tara enjoyed her drugs and alcohol, self-harm was her first release. She remembers the first time she did it, how good it felt. It was something that would never fail her. After her first time, she took that damm blade everywhere. It wasn't something that helped the pain anymore, it was a lifestyle.
