Azura's POV
Sitting in my old bedroom at my parents' house feels peaceful, as if I never left. My mind races with thoughts of my mate and his wolf—two parts of him I love deeply. But he loves Mia, my wolf, not me. When we're together, it's a battle between him, his wolf, me, and my wolf. It feels like four souls tangled into one, yet divided.
The last time he made love to me, not just to Mia, was after he punished me for a bike race I went on without his permission. It was intense, but that tenderness faded as we prepared to attend an Alpha and Luna meeting at Alpha Sam's hotel.
Here, he's distant, stressed about issues with one of his companies. I stay out of his way, finding solace in exploring the hotel. There's a piano in an empty room, its elegance drawing me in. I played piano for the Luna of my old pack once; she loved it. Today, I'm alone—no cameras, no interruptions—so I let myself go, playing and singing freely.
I lose myself in the melody:
"Something got a hold on me lately, don't know myself anymore... feel like the walls are closing in, and the devil's knocking at my door..."
The lyrics resonate, each note releasing the pressure that's built up inside. I feel more alive than I have in ages, as if I've reclaimed a part of myself. Strangely, my thoughts drift to Vee, my lifelong friend. He's always been a constant, someone who protects me and makes me feel whole.
Is it unfaithful to feel comfort thinking of another man when my mate is right here? I don't think so. Vee has always been there for me, in ways no one else has. This is the last day of the meeting, and I'm ready to go home, back to my family. But as I leave, I wish I could bring that piano with me.
I never expected my life would turn upside down that night. I noticed Alpha Sam looking at me with sadness, and his mate, Luna Diana, with anger. I had no clue why, nor did I care—I was ready to leave and return home. Little did I know, Luna Diana was about to humiliate me in front of everyone in a way I could never have imagined.
"Good evening, everyone. I'm Luna Diana. I know we're here to establish peace and cooperation, but how can we achieve that when one of your Lunas has been secretly seeing my mate?"
A shocked silence fell over the room. People exchanged glances, trying to guess which Luna had dared to be with Alpha Sam. His face went pale as he asked her, "Diana, what are you talking about?"
"I'm talking about Luna Azura!" she said, her voice echoing around the room.
My mouth dropped open in disbelief. I had barely spoken to Alpha Sam since arriving. I was stunned, but I knew I had to defend myself.
"Excuse me, Luna Diana, but there must be a mistake," I said, my voice trembling. "I haven't been alone with Alpha Sam, not even once. We've barely even spoken."
"Oh, I have evidence," she smirked. "You two were in the piano room together. There were no cameras that day, but I knew something was off, so I had them install a hidden camera this morning."
My heart raced, palms sweating. The piano room? I remembered going there, but I'd been alone. She played the footage. The screen showed me entering the room and moving to the piano, losing myself in the music, eyes closed, my entire body immersed in the moment. It was a vulnerable, private scene now laid bare before an audience of Alphas and Lunas.
I heard someone mutter, "They were right—she's the Luna with many talents."
My stomach churned with embarrassment. I could feel my mate's eyes on me, his gaze heavy and judgmental. But worst of all, the scene showed a moment of genuine joy—a happiness I hadn't felt in a long time. That night, I realized something painful: I was happy without him, happier without his harsh treatment. In that brief time, I was free. All I wanted was to be back home, with my mother, my father, my brother, and Vee.
In the video, everything was laid bare—my smile, the way my fingers glided over the piano keys, and even the gentle way I left the room. But then Alpha Sam entered the frame, approaching the piano and touching it. His expression softened, and what he said was shocking: "My daughter is as talented and beautiful as her mother." A stunned silence fell over the room as everyone processed his words. Now, he had no choice but to explain secrets he never intended me to learn.
"I'm sorry, Azura" he said quietly. "You were never supposed to find out. My mate's insecurity stems from the past—your mother and I were once lovers. She was famous and extraordinary, and back then, I was rebellious. Your brothers had already been born, and I longed for a daughter. My mate is... unable to have children. I was in a dark place after an argument with her, and I ran into your mother. One thing led to another, and that night, she became pregnant with you."
He paused, looking down, then continued, "Your mother called me later, telling me she was expecting you. I was thrilled, planning for you to grow up here with your brothers. But fate intervened. Your mother's life was saved by a vampire in a terrible accident, and the price was you. She drank his blood, and you carry his essence. You... belong to him in some way. That's why I let you go with my brother—I couldn't let him find you. I'm so sorry."
Alpha Sam's confession held everyone in silent shock. A low murmur finally broke the tension—someone scoffed that it sounded like a human soap opera. My gaze fell to the floor, unsure where to look, lost in the complexity of it all. Then Jarem's voice cut through the room.
"What's the vampire's name?" he asked, a dangerous edge in his tone.
"Vicente Carzon," Alpha Sam replied.
Jarem's jaw clenched, his fists tightening. "He's already found her—he's her best friend." The room erupted in whispers. Two mates. The unspoken question hung in the air, and I knew what they were all wondering.
Later, I thought about my mate, the brief softness he had shown me the last time we were together. He was gentle, attentive, making sure I felt loved. But as soon as we returned to the pack, he reverted, bringing back the threats, the madness, the slaps. I was tired. Tired of his cruelty, his control. I knew he'd summon me, and I'd have to go back. But this time, things would be different. I would stand up to him, show him a side of me he'd never seen.
I am a strong woman. I've always been independent, supported by my father and brothers. But this time, I know I deserve more than this. I'm done letting him treat me this way. I am worth so much more. I'll rebel, I'll defy him, and I'll leave without looking back—without a single regret.
