I had been cheering competitively ever since I was basically able to jump and I knew I wanted it to be my whole life once I won nationals with my first competitive team. So, deciding to try-out for the team I was going to college for was basically a no brainer.
When I was accepted that summer going into my freshman year, I was ecstatic. The University of Kentucky's cheerleading program were TWELVE TIME national champions and i was ready to do anything to get us another title.

I guess the upperclassmen were more than aware of how far I was willing to go. After camp that summer, I went through an unspeakable about of teasing and hazing from some of the elite members of the team. Like I said, I have been cheering forever, so I have experienced at least some kind of conflict before but this was next level.
So, I just brushed it off. I figured it wouldn't last forever. It was basically common knowledge that any freshman, anywhere at any school, would get some type of hard treatment at first. So, there was no point in complaining about it. It would pass.

Boy, was I wrong.

It had been less than halfway through my sophomore year when I decided I did not belong at UK. That January, I visited a few different colleges to possibly transfer to. I met with countless amounts of coaches and even some captains until I finally found the right fit.

I was going to virtually tryout for the University of Connecticut's cheerleading program.

And of course, I got in.

Goodbye, Wildcats. Hello and Go, Huskies!
