It's cold.

He has been digging in the snow for a long time.

There is something that needs to be found, but no matter how long he digs or how hard he looks, there is nothing.

There will continue to be nothing. But he won't know that for another while.

He has been here for... some time and has lost sense of when he has arrived and how long he's been doing this. Despite the freezing cold of the wind, and the harsh snow that's been falling, he will continue to dig underneath the dead willow tree.

"You must be here," he mutters.

His fingers are red, and his hands are shaky, but he persists.

"You're somewhere here. I'll find you. If not under this tree, then I'll look somewhere else. If not in this area, then I will move to another one. But you're here."

Even though he claims this to be true, he has no evidence. It's possible that nothing will ever be found.

But he keeps searching. He takes long strides through the snow, drops to his knees, and digs from place to place even if there's an incessant nag at the back of his head that tells him how futile it is.

He messed up. There's nothing for him here.

Even so, he continues to dig.

He will be looking for something that may never appear at all.
