"You just found out you have been lied to. The mission you were sent out on was meant to keep the best fighter occupied while enemies attacked the realm. Was it too late to still turn the table in favour of the magic realm, or will this be the last of your magical adventures?"
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I gasped as my eyes fluttered open. A red sky was above me, cloudy with mists of crimson and black as the fire ravaged everything in its way. I sneezed and coughed as I tried to breathe, and my right arm hurt from the shoulder down as I tried to move.
I needed to get out of here. Quick!
A laugh bellowed from the sky as a humanoid figure floated next to me. Its leathery skin was a pale shade of yellow, with eyes as blue as the sky and hair as dark as the night.
"So, you thought it was all over, yes?" it mocked as it pointed a clawed finger at me. "Think again, darling!"
"You'll never get away with this!" I warned. "You will go down."
The creature smiled, "I don't think so."
I groaned as the creature grabbed me by the throat and pulled me near its ugly face. My arm hung limp with every small movement, causing my shoulder to burn. I looked around and saw that my partner, Iman, was struggling against a hoard of demons that were overpowering her with every passing moment. I knew she would be gone if I didn't do anything.
"You lied to me," I whispered.
"Oh, did I?" the demon smiled. "You were foolish enough to trust us."
He was right. I should've never trusted Jasem, who was now the demon holding me in his hand. He was the one who had sent me over to fight the low-level demons on the other side of town. But I didn't know he was a demon. He was very good at hiding himself. Iman had told me he was suspicious and gave off strange vibes, but I didn't listen. Instead, I let him manipulate my feelings towards my community and sent me off. Little did I know that he planned to take over the town's main transmission tower to spread the mind-controlling signals to control everyone in the capital.
Jasem threw me away like a sack of disposable garbage. I shrieked as I hit the debris, shockwaves shaking my body as my right arm cried out in pain.
Jasem floated over to Iman, who swung her sabre around, but every swing was missing its target until Jasem kicked her legs, causing her to collapse.
"Iman!" I screamed as she hit the ground with a thud. "Get up!"
The earth rumbled as an explosion underneath the transmission tower caused the metallic structure to shake. The tower soon began to swing left and right, loud creaks echoing through the chaos as it threatened to fall.
I need to do something fast, I thought.
But there was nothing to be done. My body was paralysed; my arm was busted, and Iman was down, and I didn't know what to do. All I could think of was how I have failed everybody. I couldn't even shudder as Jasem laughed as everything turned to debris.
I closed my eyes and prayed.
Prayed for forgiveness.
Prayed for my parents.
Prayed for a better afterlife.
