Six - Lies
GODDOOM
“How long have I been here?” That was the first question Melody asked when she got up. It followed a groan.
“The whole day,” her mom answered. She sat beside her on the hospital bed.
“Where's Michelle?” the second question she asked.
“She was here a few minutes ago but it was getting dark so I asked her to go,” her mom answered.
“What's the time?” her third question.
“It's 7 pm, interestingly. You slept for about 12 hours, one full day.”
“Wow,” Melody commented.
“Are you done with your questions because I have some for you myself?” Trixie looked very serious. Melody would brace herself for what's coming if she lifted her head to watch her mother's face.
The tone of her mother's voice alerted her, making her raise her head. “Oh.... Okay,” she said softly.
“Why did you lie about your dreams? So it continued and you decided not to tell us? And oh, I found your drugs this morning, you didn't take any, did you? Okay so I'm listening, tell me why”
Melody had to be smarter than she'd ever been in her life at this particular moment. She panicked and her heart beat faster than usual. But suddenly it felt like someone lit a torch in her head. “I'm sorry, I was afraid you guys would send me to the asylum.”
“What?!” Trixie was shocked. “No, why would you even think that?!”
“I saw it in a movie, and one of my friends told me the same thing happened to her brother,” Melody was smart. The fact is, no one knew Melody was having these dreams apart from Michelle.
“Who?! Michelle?!” Trixie asked.
“No! My... other... friend. Audrey” She knew no Trixie in her life. She just kept piling up lies to cover the previous ones.
“Don't mind her dear, they would have to bury me alive before I'd allow them take you anywhere like that.”
“Really?” Michelle played along perfectly, though what her mother said had actually touched her.
“Yes, of course honey,” Trixie hugged her. Melody blushed.
Just about then, a doctor entered the room. “That's good,” he smiled.
“Aha! You're back already, ” Trixie said.
“Yes, with some more good. There's nothing wrong with her actually. She just needs more rest. It's very important that she gets that because it might have negative impact on her body and mental health. Their basic things but very very important.”
“And that's all, right?” Trixie wanted to be sure.
“Please yes, like I have already said. Her lack of proper rest is the reason for her going out like that. Though it's a little unusual for her age.”
“What do you mean?” Trixie asked.
“I mean, she's very young. I can't possibly what would make her body that stressed out to be knocked out like that. If she was having any form of illness, I would understand but our tests have proven her to be a hundred percent. If you engage in anything that requires that you overexert yourself, I'd advise you to restrain from it”
“I see. I'll make sure she does,” Trixie gave him her word. “Alright then, we'll be on our way then.”
“Thanks for choosing us,” the doctor replied.
Melody got to her room and checked her phone. Michelle had called the sixteenth time and she had ignored again.
She took a deep breath and called back. Michelle picked immediately.
“Hey I'm sorry. Please forgive me. She looked very disturbed, I couldn't help but tell her.”
“Alright. Fine, I understand, I guess.”
“Thank you so much! Love you more than you think.”
“Love you too, Michelle.”
The call was over. The time had come for her to face her then greatest fear. The vision or dream or whatever she had earlier, scared her more than anything had ever done.
She also knew that getting scared of sleep was just contrary to what the doctor had just said about some minutes ago. She kept thinking of what she saw and how it felt so real. None of her dreams had ever felt real like that one. It sent chills down her spine just at the thought of it.
She just sat on the bed through the night. She never fell asleep till it was morning. Though she knew there was never a man that could escape the warm embrace of a good rest.
