In a futuristic game looking room, two people walked in the aisle they had created, glancing in disgust at the children that occupied the tubes. Heels clicked as the woman made her way towards the front, checking something on her computer first while the man went straight to the screen at the centre.
The woman clicked through various files before finding what she wanted, quickly reading through it with a dismissive scan.
Just what she had thought...
Clicking off the files, she left her computer and joined her husband's side, barely looking at him as her eyes shifted towards the main scene.
On the screen in front of them they had access to the games, watching with an unusual amount of joy as their daughter's murderers were brought to what they believed to be justice.
Every time they heard the announcer announce another elimination they knew they were closer and closer to doing it all over again.
Their eyes were currently trained on the scene of Kim Jiwoo and her elimination. Blood stained her red shirt and there was that familiar dried crimson staining her face, but she barely paid any attention to it as she watched the remaining participants take their vote.
Opposite her, her brother glanced wearily at her as she stared down at the floor beneath her, eyes completely void of any tangible emotion.
She had just been accused of being mafia and they had immediately jumped to vote her, all except for Junhee, Yoonseo and shockingly Kyungjun.
It had been obvious her brother and friend would not vote for her but Kyungjun? He had defended it by claiming that her being mafia did not make any sense.
Instead of defending herself, she merely blinked slowly and watched them vote, quietly listening to the insults they had shared with her.
Jiwoo's eyes shifted to her phone and she turned it on, she was the only one yet to vote and time was ticking. No matter who voted who, she was going to be the next one eliminated, she had too many votes already.
Instead, she took a deep sigh and looked at the faces staring right back at her. "Hey, Somi?" Jiwoo called out, startling the girl who had immediately turned her accusations towards her. "Are you a citizen?"
The girl had laughed at the question, her eyes panicked as they shifted. "Of course I am." Somi replied, uneasiness clinging to her as she watched the eerily calm girl shrug.
"So, you won't care if your role is checked in front of everyone?" Jiwoo retorted, raising her brow as she tapped her phone.
Somi just laughed at the girl, taking a step towards her as she gave her a mocking tap on the cheek. "And how are you going to do that, Jiwoo?" The girl taunted, sending a faux pout.
Unfazed at her condescension, Jiwoo merely smiled, raising her phone for the girl to see. "I'm the fucking police, Somi." Jiwoo revealed, using the same amount as venom when she spoke the girls name. As her face dropped, the girl took her chance and pressed her phone, waiting patiently as the screen flashed, clarifying what she had thought. "Not only are you a liar, you're a bad one."
With that, the girl took a step back and pressed the vote button on her phone, casting her vote on Somi.
While conversation broke out, she spun on her heel and left the room, she at least wanted her death to be private. She barely glanced at her brother, knowing she would be unable to leave if she did. She hoped he won this stupid game, hoped he found a way out, he deserved it.
As she moved through the various hallways, an attempt to find a place where she would be undisturbed, she heard footsteps behind her and quickly turned around. She had hoped it was not Junhee, unable to face the sight of her brother during such a moment. However, to her surprise, she came face to face with Kyungjun.
Neither knew what to say to one another, just standing oppositely and staring as they tried to encourage their mouth to move. Just as Jiwoo went to speak, her phone buzzed and she knew her time had ran out.
She did not want to die but at this point, it was inevitable.
All of it had been for nothing.
Her eyes moved to meet his and she smiled slightly. "Move me somewhere Junhee will never find me, please don't let him find me." Jiwoo begged the boy as he frowned, his mouth drying up any response.
Just when he found the courage to respond, that deadly noise filled her mind and he watched in horror as her pupils vanished, blending into the milky white of her eye. Kyungjun took a step towards her but she merely took one backwards, her hands fumbling for the weapon she had seen behind her.
A knife was resting on the table behind her and just as Kyungjun realised her intentions, the blade was embedded into her abdomen. His eyes widened as she dropped to the ground, repeatedly embedding it as she did so.
Before his mind could comprehend what he was doing, he was beside her, watching as her attempts grew slower and slower, her mind and body becoming weaker.
Kyungjun reached out cautiously, resting the girl's body on his knee as he carefully pulled the blade from her fingertips. Jiwoo was too weak to stop him, she was too weak to move, to do anything.
So Kyungjun stayed with her until the very end, repeating in his head everything he had wanted to tell her, that he would never get the chance to share now.
Watching the girl take her dying breath, the two parents glanced at one another, the screen flickering with the announcement of another elimination.
When they had been in the process of creating a list for the participants, she was the only one they had been girl unsure whether to add her or not. Their daughter never had anything bad to say about the girl, as far as they knew, she was her only real friends. Jiwoo actually attempted to do something to make Seeun's life more better.
In fact, she was the one who had informed them of the bullying that their daughter was facing, how people were spreading nasty rumours about her. Jiwoo had encouraged them to do something to make their daughter feel better, to help her.
For that they had believed her to be unworthy of being in the game, but then they were reminded that their daughter was not here.
She had failed to do anything, she was still dead.
Another factor that solidified their reasoning to add her was that in every single game Jiwoo fell for Kyungjun and every single time it eventually cost her life. The two would share fleeting kisses, longing glances and hushed conversations that went unnoticed to everyone else.
As they knew from their daughter's diary, this has been the same when she was alive.
Every game it proved that her loyalties lied elsewhere, with the people who murdered their daughter.
For that she would stay in the game forever.
