School days always seemed to drag on, the end of school bell never came soon enough in Jiwoo's opinion. In her last class, she always found herself either sleeping or staring in anticipation at the ticking clock in the back of her classroom, praying that time would move faster so she could go home.
This day was no different to that.
It had been her biology class and she was barely paying any attention, her sole attention on the hands of the clock, that seemed to be never moving. The more she stared, the slower they moved and for a second she was certain that they had just stopped working all together. Blinking, she watched the hand move once again, confirming it had just been a trick of the light, they were working.
Just as she was about to lose all hope that she was going to make it out of the classroom alive, the hand moved to the hour, announcing that the class had ended.
Finally, the bell rung and she found herself packed up before the teacher could even say their goodbye to them, barely listening as they reminded their students of the homework due.
Yawning tiredly, Jiwoo pulled herself out of her seat and grabbed her schoolbag, pulling the straps on her arm. Certain she had put everything away, she followed the other students into the hallway as they headed home for the day. She was exhausted and could not be bothered to walk home, knowing she had a mountain of homework due tomorrow, some that she had not even started yet.
Sighing, she pulled the straps and made her way out of the school doors, realising she had to walk home alone today. Seeun had got a lift home from her parents, Yoonseo was at a doctors appointment and Junhee had to stay behind for a meeting — something to do with being class president and all the responsibilitys that came along with it.
So, Jiwoo was walking home alone, not even able to beg her parents to pick her up as they were working.
Accepting defeat, she trailed along the pathway home, wishing she had remembered to bring her earphones with her, at least she would have been able to listen to music as she walked alone. Instead, all she had was the sound of the wind crashing against nearby bushes, sending leaves scattering her way, or the sound of arguing coming from nearby students.
Once she had made it a few blocks from her house, she noticed someone was walking at her side, startling her slightly. Turning to face the person, she found herself met with Kyungjun, the boy acting as if this was no different to his usual routine. When she sent him an inquisitive glance he merely grinned.
"I can't exactly let you walk home alone." Kyungjun defended, easily falling into step with her as she squinted at him. "What would your mother think if she knew I had left you out here, all alone and defenceless."
Rolling her eyes, Jiwoo scoffed. "I did martial arts for years, I can protect myself." Her deadpanned tone only made him smile innocently. "Besides, why do you care what my mother thinks? She doesn't know you, weirdo." She retorted, nudging her shoulder against his as he laughed.
"I need to make a good impression on her when I do meet her, I need her blessing, obviously." Kyungjun countered, sending a wink when he noticed her startled expression.
"Oh, I am going to kill you, Ko Kyungjun." Jiwoo announced as his laughter echoed along the street the two had been walking down.
As he set off into a run, the girl close behind, he continued to call out to her as she screamed in protest, various insults and threats spilling from her lips as she chased after him.
Funnily enough, he had made her laugh and by the time she had caught up with him she could not even recall why she had been annoyed in the first place.
From that point on, Jiwoo never walked home alone, she was always accompanied by the incessant boy who insisted on being at her side, no matter what.
