“What.”
Hawks opened wide golden eyes to reveal a mess of cheap beer bottles, random containers from various places, and broken walls.
He tried to talk but all he could manage was a surprised chirp. There was no denying this was his childhood ‘home’. ‘But how?’ Hawks' expression tensed and he slowly looked around. 'Am I dead?’ No. He didn’t feel dead at least. He’d remembered a voice telling him ‘it wasn’t over.’ when he was dying on the battlefield. The battle. All of Japan had been a desolate wasteland. There was nothing left. Everyone was dead or dying. Panic seized inside of him and his throat tightened. ‘Holy FUCK. I can’t breathe.’ Red wings wrapped around his now small body.It should have been comforting if they didn’t remind him of all the blood spilled. 'If I’m not at the war then what happened? I should get back. I should get back before-'SLAM.
“KEIGO GET YOUR ASS OUT HERE NOW.” The door slamming closed startled Keigo out of the influx of thoughts crowding his brain. His ‘father’ was back. Instinctively, Keigo huddled up tightly in the corner he was already in, hoping his father wouldn’t notice him. He shivered as he heard the large footsteps come closer to the dark corner he was in. Closer. Closer. Closer still..
A harsh kick was delivered to his face. Tears welled up in his eyes that he dared not let spill. This. This was definitely real and not a dream. Somehow,he had traveled to the past and ended up back as a child in an unfortunate situation. All he had to do was wait. A beer bottle was thrown in his direction. “YA BETTER NOT RAT ME OUT YA LITTLE BRAT.” Keigo was picked up by the collar of his shirt. This was going to be his life for a while now, even though he didn’t even know how he had ended up there. 'I’ll make everything better. So things don’t end up the way they did. s̶o̶ d̶a̶b̶i̶ a̶n̶d̶ t̶w̶i̶c̶e̶ w̶e̶r̶e̶n̶'t̶ d̶e̶a̶d̶. So I could possibly be happy.' “I won’t.” That was a lie, of course. The plan was to go to the city and report ‘father’ to the police. There would be no hero commission involved, no future hero Hawks. There would be just Keigo.
“Hey..don’t leave me alright? You promised..” The drawling voice of Tomie Takami came from a beat down couch in the corner. Although she was speaking to his father, her eyes were glued to the TV. Just as Keigo remembered. She stared at it like it was the only thing that existed, mumbling things under her breath. Father didn’t reply to her. He never replied to her, instead focusing on beating the crap out of his child. Father continued to yell, Keigo didn’t know when he had toned him out but he did. His father eventually left to either get drunk or go out and do whatever, leaving Keigo to his own mess of bruises. When he finally got up, he grabbed the glass out of his wings carefully. He held on to the wall for support(due to the fact he was not used to walking with his talons again) and went off to the small corner of torn towels he used as a nest. He sat in it and listened to his mom mumble incoherent things till he fell into a dreamless sleep.
…
Keigo awoke to his empty stomach complaining about the lack of food. He grumbled to himself and stretched. Father never came back before noon and mom was usually too busy with the TV to notice him. He could sneak out right now. Keigo stood quietly and tip-toed to the door. Wild adrenaline rushed through his veins as he tried to open the door as quietly as he could. He took his first step to freedom, then another, and another. Soon, he was running from the tattered house, not looking back. The fear in him told him to turn around or else father would find him. But the excitement told him to keep going. So Keigo ran. He ran until his legs felt like jelly and his breath came in heaving gulps. A smile crossed his features.
As Keigo caught his breath, he became more aware of the area around him. This wasn’t anywhere near the police. Actually, he didn’t know where the police station was. Keigo’s plan was somewhat starting to fall apart. Fukuoka was an area he hadn’t explored much. Actually, he didn’t explore anywhere much. He was given the location and was kinda just there before anyone really registered he was. Keigo sat in the alleyway, head propped on his hands as he tried to form another plan in his head.
A rustle by the trash caught his attention and he peeked over. His golden gaze met wide red eyes. Keigo nearly jumped out of his skin seeing that. The red eyed(person?) thing stared for a while from its shadowy protection before stepping out into the open.
Keigo gasped slightly as the wiry frame of Shigaraki Tomura entered his vision. Only, a Shigaraki that was 10x smaller than the one he had seen before and during the war. Wide, curious red eyes stared at his huddled form. "Who..are you?" The eyes never once stopped staring at Keigo. It was a bit unsettling to say the least, but Keigo shook the feeling off mentally.
"I'm Keigo. You?" There had been an internal debate on whether he should give Shigaraki his last name or not, eventually deciding against it in case that came back to him later. "Tenko."
There was no anger in this little kids eyes, just terror and confusion. Keigo vowed he would stay by this kid and keep him safe. He wouldn't let AFO touch either of them. Fuck his father, and whatever had gotten this inoccent child to be the monster he was before. Shigaraki and Hawks were no more. It was just Keigo and Tenko now.
And they were inseparable.
