After the biggest win in his whole career, Jason Mysterio Jr decided to take some very long time off from Lucha Underground. Relinquishing the Gift of the Gods Championship, he knew his ankle wasn't fully healed for that Mask vs. Championship Match against Chavo Guerrero Jr, and was sitting at home inspecting it. It was still slightly broke, but it was in his mind about 50% healed. He didn't want to take time off, but it was the only way to heal his ankle the rest of the way. It would be awhile until Jason would return to action, but that time would be a little later than he expected. Lucha Underground had ended on November 7th, 2018, which saw some of the talent that brought it together going to WWE, with Prince Puma signing with the company under the name Ricochet just before the last airing of it happening on January 16th, and King Cuerno signing on August 14th of 2019, and debuting under the name Santos Escobar on February 15th of 2020. 2022 would eventually come and Jason was unemployed, which was bad for housing. His family begged him to come and stay with them, but with him being the oldest sibling between himself, Dominik and Aalyah, he didn't want to trouble them with the burden of having to help with money and such. By the time, his ankle was all healed and he was ready to get back into the ring, but he didn't know when that was going to be. He went to rehab to get himself cleared by doctors and what not, but it wasn't enough to prepare him. He bought his own gym with some of the Christmas money he got from Rey and Angie, and was using it to not only help himself, but to also teach younger competitors the abilities taught by personal trainers.

He had gotten a few calls from guys like Ricochet and Santos Escobar, even his brother and father, who were currently in a storied feud with Dominik being teamed up with Finn Bálor, Damian Priest and Rhea Ripley in the Judgment Day, to come and join the WWE, but he didn't know how to. The last time he was in a WWE Arena, he was apart of the Eddie Guerrero tribute episode of Raw, ringside for Rey Mysterio's match against Shawn Michaels. The topic of WWE and Jason was highly sensitive, but it wasn't a definite no, but it wasn't a yes either. One day he was walking around Tijuana, catching some air, when all of a sudden a black limo pulled up to him, which had a certain someone inside.
