October, 2022

"Hey, Dav, I'll be right back, I have a meeting," "Okay see you in a bit, Lia," David said before pulling Amelia into a quick kiss. The two met in 2008 at the Florida Winter Tour and have been dating since 2014.

Amelia walked into the Red Bull garage without anyone noticing and went over to Christian, "So do I take this as you being part of our driver line up next year?" "It sure does and thank you again for the opportunity to make my F1 comeback with you guys," "No problem, come on let's get that contract signed and then it will be offical," Christian said as he motioned Amelia to enter the office and she did.

Her contract for Arrow McLaren never got renewed instead Alexander Rossi got signed on and she was tired of waiting and asking Zak Brown about getting one of the seats in the F1 team so when Christian Horner came to her about signing her on for the 2023 season the negotiations quickly started. After Mercedes dropped her after she won the 2018 F1 championship she has been trying to get back into the grid bcause racing in F1 had been her dream growing up and she did not want it to be so short lived with only racing in one season even if she did win the championship in that season.

One thing she was still had not done was tell David of her negotiating a contract or that she was going to sign into Red Bull and get back into F1. The only people that knew were her parents, her siblings, her cousin Logan Sargeant, her best friend Oscar Piastri, Sebastian Vettel, and Fernando Alonso. She knew if she told David he would try to talk her out of it because this has been the most stable their relationship has been since it started. They just finished their first season in Indy Car together even if they were on different teams they were in the same place at the same time unlike prior to her racing in America she was constantly on the move but always making time to come to his races in the states when possible.

Once Amelia finished reading the contract she grabbed the pen and signed it, "Welcome to Red Bull, Amelia, will you be going back to your old number?" "Yeah," "Okay, we will be announcing, you signing in next week during the Mexico weekend if that is okay with you," He said and she nodded. They continued talking for a bit longer before Amelia had to go back to go back to McLaren to watch the race.

Two weeks later...

Amelia stepped into the apartment she shared with David after hanging out with Pato and Felix, something was off and it has been that way since she got back from the Mexican GP. As she closed the door behind her, she expected to be greeted by David's warm smile and welcoming embrace like always, but instead, she found him sitting on the couch, eyes glued to his phone, barely acknowledging her presence like he had been doing recently.

"David?" she called out, her voice tinged with concern.

David glanced up briefly, a fleeting shadow crossing his features before returning his attention to his phone. "Oh, hey," he mumbled, his tone devoid of its usual warmth.

Amelia's heart sank at his lackluster response, a knot forming in the pit of her stomach. She had hoped that he would tell her what was in his mind and what is bothering him.

Steeling herself for what was to come, Amelia took a seat beside David, her hands trembling slightly. "Is everything okay, David? You seem... distant."

David let out a sigh, his gaze still fixed on his phone. "I'm fine, just... busy with work stuff and I have event to go to later."

Amelia's brow furrowed in confusion. "But I thought we agreed to spend some quality time together tonight."

David shrugged nonchalantly, his attention still focused on his phone. "Yeah, well, plans change."

The sting of his words cut deep, a painful reminder of the growing distance between them. With a heavy heart, Amelia made a decision to confront the elephant in the room, to address the underlying tension that had been building between them for weeks.

"David, we need to talk," she began, her voice steady despite the turmoil inside her.

David glanced up from his phone, irritation flashing in his eyes. "Can't it wait? I'm kind of in the middle of something here."

Amelia's resolve hardened, her determination unwavering. "No, David, it can't wait. This is important. Our relationship is important."

With a heavy sigh, David finally set his phone aside, turning to face her with a look of resignation. "Fine, what is it?"

Taking a deep breath, Amelia gathered her thoughts, steeling herself for the difficult conversation ahead. "I've noticed that things haven't been the same between us since I got from Mexico. It's like after the news came out you stopped being your normal self. You've been distant, cold... it's like you're not even here anymore."

David's eyes narrowed, a flicker of resentment crossing his features. "Can you blame me, Amelia? You made such a huge decision without even consulting me. It's like you didn't even consider how it would affect us."

Amelia's heart sank at his words, the truth of his accusation hitting her like a punch to the gut. "I'm sorry, David. But you know racing in F1 has always been my childhood dream. It's not just about my career; it's about fulfilling something I've wanted since I was a little girl."

David let out a bitter laugh, his tone laced with frustration. "Your dream, huh? What about us, Amelia? What about our plans for the future? You've already had a season in F1, for god's sake! And look what happened when you were in F1! Mercedes dropped you like a hot potato when you won the championship, and Red Bull will probably do the same. You've never been supportive of my career, always putting your racing first!"

Tears welled up in Amelia's eyes as she reached out to him, her voice pleading. "I have always supported you, David. I've shown up to all your races I could, cheering you on every step of the way. But you've never once believed in me, never once supported my dreams, not once you have shown up to one of my races if we were not racing in the same track in the same day. I can't keep sacrificing my happiness for someone who doesn't see the value in what I do."

David's gaze softened slightly, a hint of regret crossing his features. "I didn't mean... I didn't realize..."

But it was too late. The damage had been done, their relationship irreparably fractured by years of unspoken resentment and unfulfilled expectations.

"I think it is best if we ended here, David, I'll come get my stuff later when you are not here," She said and with one final, lingering glance, Amelia turned and walked out of the apartment that she had called home, leaving behind the shattered fragments of a love that was once so strong.
