Moon's POV:

A bright light flashes from above, lighting the entire room. I groan from the pain of the light shining in my eyes, and use my hand to cover them while squinting. After my eyes mostly adjust, I can see what's happening around me. People in weird clothes and some sort of eye protection and gloves scurry around the room, looking left and right, picking up items and typing things on computers.

But one looked different from the others. She had her hair up in a ponytail and wore no eye protection, but she did where white gloves and a white mask. She held a notepad and pen, and was scribbling something down on it. Her hair was blonde, she had emerald green eyes, and had a white lab coat.

She walked in front of me and pressed some buttons on the side that made the chair I was in lean forward, putting me in a sitting position instead of a laying down one. I blinked a few times until everything was as clear as it was going to get, and I could really look around. I don't recognize where I am, nor know who I am.

"Hello there, 02." The lady said. I can... I can understand her. How do I just know this language? What is it called... english? "My name is Dr. Levine, but my friends call me Zoey."

Dr. Levine. Yes, she's in my files.

Full Name: Zoey Catherine Levine.

Job Status: Scientist, Engineer

Level of Authority: 6/10

Current Orders: None.

Orders? What orders? And what's a level of authority?

"What's your name, 02?" Dr. Levine asked me. Does she really expect me to know? Is everything justs supposed to know this stuff when they are first created? I don't like how confusing this is. I shook my head and looked her in the eyes, before turning to look around the bright room. She turned to another women who was also in a white lab coat and had white gloves. However, this one had glasses and no mask. Dr. Levine said something to her, nodded, then turned back to me as the other women with dark brown hair walked off to somewhere else.

"Well then, let's start with that, shall we?" She said. I nodded hesitantly, still confused. "Do you have access to my files?" I paused, scanning through my systems.

"Y-... yes." I spoke. That felt weird.

"Alright, go to files on '02'". I obeyed, searching my systems again until I came across what I was looking for. "Did you find it?" She asked.

"I think so," My voice sounds weird. Talking is weird. "What should I do now?"

"Read it aloud please." I nodded and began.

"'Number Designation: 02

Name: Moonlight

Status: WIP

Partner: 01

Mission: Yet to be assigned

Under Authority of: All Staff and Members of 𝓤𝓴𝓷𝓸𝔀𝓷'" I finished. That was a lot.

"Good," Dr. Levine stated. "Now, what is your name?"

"Moonlight." I responded.

Dr. Levine scribbled something down on her notepad. "Fantastic. Now, what is your designation number?"

I made eye contact with her again. "Number designation: 02. Partner: 01," I paused, thinking. "Who is 01, Dr. Levine?"

"Oh don't worry! You'll meet him soon. He's just like you! I'm sure you two will get along." Dr. Levine smiled.

I wanted to meet this new person now, but I can't. So, I scanned through their files instead.

ACCESS DENIED.

...

What?

I scanned through the rest of my files with number designations or titles that start with "Dr." or, "Mr." or, "Mrs.". Every single one I tried to open made a yellow warning sign pop up along with a female voice saying, "access denied" over and over again.

"Stupid security system," I mumble under my breath. Why do I only have access to my own files and Dr. Levine's? Am I just not trustworthy enough yet? "Ok, can we finish up whatever little tests your doing on me? Because I would very very much like it if I could get out of this blindingly clean and white room." I say.

"And there's that attitude! I will say, I don't understand what giving a sential robot an attitude will do for this company and cause, but oh well. Anyways, as you explore and get more familiar with the world around you, I'm sure you'll develop the rest of your personality soon enough!" Dr. Levine said. She's so happy. It almost makes me uncomfortable.

I exasperatedly exhale. "Okaaaay, but what's an attitude?" I ask, genuinely confused.

"Huh, guess we'll have to update your inner dictionary. Usually you're made with the basic english language of over 171,476 words! (That's specific👍) I'll get that checked." Auhhhhhgg, now I have to wait even LONGER to meet this 01. Hopefully it will all be worth it.

I stepped out of the big mechanical door and sighed loudly, finally being done from those stupid tests. I leaned on the wall with one hand and pulled my eyelids open with the other. I blinked a few a times and then gasped in awe.

I was standing on a small ledge with a railing that led all around the building, with doors to different labs and rooms. Below me was a bustling crowd of people in all sorts of clothes and holding all sorts of items.

The building is bigger than I thought, with glass, shiny steel, marble, wood, and waterfalls everywhere. While sightseeing and exploring sounded tempting, meeting 01 sounded better.

Dr. Levine said he would be in his testing room, since he was still finishing up his paint job. She didn't tell me where it was, but said something about it being on the main floor, as in the area right below where I'm standing. So, I look around for some sort of staircase leading down to the main area.

I hope this "01" really is just like me, and we'll get along. It'd be nice to have someone who understands how I feel right now.
