drew o'connor was a player on the pittsburgh penguins hockey team.
he has been my best friend since middle school, and i stayed by his side until he got to this point: playing in the nhl. i go to every single game, even if i have to cancel plans or appointments. i want to be there to support my best friend every single time.
i have never really thought about drew romantically, maybe a few times but i shove the thoughts out of my head. but sometimes you guys flirt. it doesn't hurt anything, right? you are just friends, right?
~
i was sat in the private box, like every other game. i was a season pass holder because it was cheaper than buying a ticket for one person over and over again for the games.
drew and i drove into the city together. i dropped him off real early before the game and then i went off and got some dinner and just walked around for a while in my big jersey that had his last name and number on it, 10.
i had chinese food for dinner at some good place downtown my friend recommended me. she was right, it was pretty good. anyway i actually didn't eat much there so i was currently stuffing my face with the food provided in the private box. they had different food most of the time, but today it was mini sliders and mac n cheese. i piled about 3 sliders onto my plate and a big scoop of mac n cheese. along with a bottle of water. i sat down in one of the seats as the other people who reserved the box also arrived. the game was starting soon, so the boys would be coming out for a few practice swings and stretches, then the national anthem and game on.
we are going against the detroit red wings, and they are pretty good. they are also aggressive players, i hope no one gets hurt tonight.
"hey, whats your name?" i turned around mid-chew and saw a tall man talking to me.
he and a few other boys that looked his age came into the suite. he had a crosby jersey on and a backwards pens cap. his hair was brown and i had to admit, he was attractive. i just don't think i wanted to date him.
"uhm," i swallowed, "olivia. how about you?"
"mark," he replied. he looked around my age.
i nodded, taking another bite of my sandwich.
"so what are you doing here alone?" he asked me, slightly chuckling as i took huge bites of the sandwich.
"just having fun, drew o'connor is my best friend and i come to watch him every game," i explained.
"yooo," another boy spoke up and the rest of them looked toward me, "you're friends with OC?"
i smiled and nodded. they all wowed and smiled big, surprised.
"thats sick," mark said, the other boys paying no attention and talking amongst each other now.
"yeah sure," i agreed. it wasn't crazy to me, i have known him for like ever.
mark walked down the few steps and sat down next to me and looked around the arena. the countdown was done and the lights went off. i carefully set my plate down and stood up, knowing the team was about to skate out. drew also told me he was in the starting lineup tonight.
