Chapter One
(Second POV)
There was no mistaking it.
That was him.
That was Freddy.
The moment your eyes met his familiar, brilliant blue gaze, you knew. There was no doubt about it. His eyes were that same cerulean blue that had haunted your dreams all these years apart, and the moment your gaze locked with his sky-colored eyes, your knees had felt suddenly weak from the sheer nostalgia.
But that foreign look in his eyes...and that strange manner of speech...
What happened to him in the years you'd been away?
The confusion that you had seen on his face was genuine—he really didn't remember you.
But how?
How can that be?
The moment your eyes met his, you could have sworn the world swayed under your feet; the sensation was so profound and so surreal just from finally being able to see his face that you could have collapsed from relief on the spot.
How could he not have felt that?
How could he look at you with that jarring blank gaze?
What had they done to him?
Were the others just like that, too?
Had they also forgotten you?
Your panicked thoughts jumbled around in your brain as you tried to figure out what the hell you were going to do now. Of all the ways you'd imagined reuniting with your long lost friends—dealing with their apparent amnesia concerning you was certainly not one of them! What were you supposed to do now? Should you go back to Freddy and try again to get him to remember you? Should you check on the other animatronics to see if they were also suffering from the same amnesia?
"Hey! If you can hear me, just come out already, would you? You shouldn't be here after hours, whoever the hell you are!"
You scowled at the woman's voice.
For a night guard probably getting paid minimum wage at best, she sure was tenacious. You peeked around the corner of one of the many photo booths scattered across the main area, and you saw her flashlight flickering around the area down the hall from where you were.
There was no way you were going to let her catch you, not when you still had so much to do!
Think! What was the best thing to do now?
If you could find Goldie, he would probably be able to tell you what was going on, but there's no telling where that guy could be in this giant pizzaplex! Chica's room in Rockstar Row had been unoccupied when you'd passed by it before going to see Freddy, so you had no clue where she currently was. If you had to guess, she'd be in or near the kitchen, but again, you had no clue where anything was in this place!
Despite all of the giant neon signs in the building telling you what area was which, you were still so confused by the sheer enormity of the building. You couldn't make heads or tails of the map you'd found, and it was hard to sneak around with the night guard and the bots looking for you. You didn't even have a minute to think on a proper plan before you had to hurry and move to another hiding spot!
What you needed right now was a decent place to hide for a little while.
Was there anywhere in this giant place that could give you a few minutes of rest to get your head on straight and think of a plan?
