Chapter Four
(Second POV)
The fuzzy feeling that had captured both your and Freddy's senses of reason when you'd agreed to return to the pizzaplex together had finally worn off by the time you were walking up to its doors in the dead of the night.
Freddy was fidgeting nervously, his eyes constantly drifting to your wounded leg. You were walking on your own, as you'd insisted on, and the long pants you'd managed to shuffle into completely hid the bandages around your injury. You did your best not to stumble or wince as you walked, being mindful not to give him reason to worry, but it seemed that his concern wouldn't be so easily assuaged.
You were maybe ten steps away from the back entrance you'd exited from last night before he finally darted in front of you, blocking your path. His azure orbs were frantic with worry, his expression practically pitiful as his big blue orbs alone implored you without need for words.
"I think we should bring you back home," he said, more than a hint of begging in his tone, "It was a mistake to allow you to come with me—you need rest! I was not thinking clearly, you will not be safe in there! And the doctor said—!"
You'd expected this.
You gave a sigh, running a hand through your hair, "Freddy, we already talked about this—"
"I made a mistake," he fervently shook his head in refusal, furrowing his brows to look more serious, "You...you cannot go in! I cannot let you get hurt again!"
And here you'd thought that the memory lobotomy he'd gotten had made him even the least bit more pliant when it came to you deciding to take risks.
Yet, here it is once more—Freddy's signature protectiveness, that stubborn refusal to allow you to get hurt doing something that you definitely had to do.
His expression was lacking, his attempted glare looking a little too soft and innocent for the fierce and unyielding protectiveness you knew he had within him, but all the feeling was there. His memories had been changed, and a bit of his personality too, but deep in his soul he was still the same old Freddy that you knew and loved, and this was yet more proof of that.
"If I speak to Chica alone and explain, she will likely remember what Bonnie had told us before he disappeared," he insisted, his words rushed in his frenzy, "and then I can tell her about you, and if I can convince her to visit you—"
"How are you going to do all of that if I leave you here alone and your memories of me disappear again?" You huffed at him, "We have to go in together, like we already agreed on."
Your words and your dismissive tone made him wilt, and your heart stung a bit profoundly at the devastation in his wide blue eyes as he stared at you.
You stepped past him, your stride confident despite the slight limp from your injured leg.
"We'll go find her together," you stated, your voice echoing optimism into the night air, "We'll both be there to explain—"
You flinched as you felt Freddy's hand enclose around your wrist, stopping you in your tracks. Even before you turned back to face him, you felt the slight tremble in his hand from where it met your skin. He couldn't meet your eyes, his head bowed as if he were prepared to be scolded, and his expression was clearly anxious.
Seeing him—the ever-suave Freddy who always acted like nothing ever fazed him—act so timidly...
You were at a loss for words. The sight of him looking so pitiful left a dull ache in your chest.
After a few moments of silence, he took a small breath, and his expression tightened. Still, he could not lift his eyes to yours, instead furrowing his brows and shutting his eyes, as if he were gathering all the confidence he could muster just to speak these next words to you.
