D-dad?" I stammered, surprised by the sudden display of affection.

I was taken aback. This imposing figure before me, my father? His presence seemed to command respect, and I certainly didn't want to incur his wrath.

"Please, my dear, join us for breakfast," he gestured, making room for me to sit beside him.

I settled into my seat, still processing the revelation. As we began to eat in silence, my mother's unexpected comment broke the quiet.

"Jadelyn, I didn't expect you to wear the uniform, considering your... condition," she remarked.

My heart skipped a beat. She knew about my situation? "You know?" I blurted out.

"Of course. I know what's going on with my children, even when it comes to their bodies. But don't take it the wrong way," she reassured me, her tone devoid of judgment.

I couldn't help but smile as I glanced at my father, who returned the gesture with a warm smile of his own.

"So, y'all make 18 today. Happy birthday to my baby girls, who isn't a baby anymore. Have any of you meet your mates yet?"

"James! They just arrived yesterday. I'm sure they're not familiar with that concept," she whisper-shouted, shooting a disapproving glance at my dad. What could she be referring to?

"What's a mate?" I asked my mom, feeling puzzled. She sighed, casting a frustrated glance at my dad, who simply shrugged in response.

"Well, my dear, mates are someone who's like your soulmate. It's quite common in the supernatural world. Your dad is my mate. In the supernatural realm, particularly among werewolves, having a mate is essential. They're there to care for you, keep you grounded, love you unconditionally, and often, they're the only ones who truly understand you. It's like the universe has gifted you a perfect match. They're out there somewhere, waiting for you, or perhaps actively searching." She explained calmly and deliberately.

I was taken aback. Soulmates? It sounded like something out of a fairy tale. I never imagined I'd have one, especially since I've always been skeptical about such things.

"How do I find my soulmate, Mom?" Jade asked, her curiosity piqued. What? Jade, with a mate? It seemed odd to me. She only needed me, her sister. Why was she even interested?

"Well, it seems like you're interested," my mom said with a soft chuckle, clapping her hands together lightly.

"She's not," I interjected softly, though I knew my parents could hear. Jade shot me a death stare. "Yes, she's interested. Haha..." I added with a nervous laugh, trying to lighten the mood.

"Jade, my dear, it's quite easy to find your mate, especially since you have werewolf blood running through you," my mom began, her tone gentle and reassuring. "If you see someone who catches your attention at first sight, or if you catch a whiff of an unusual scent that draws you in, they might be your mate. But to be certain, you both have to touch each other, like holding hands, and if you feel an electric sensation, then that's your mate."

I listened intently, my mind racing with thoughts. Could it be? Did I really feel that sensation when the red-haired girl touched me? And what about the other girl with black hair? She had also captured my attention, but we never touched.

"Jadelyn dear, is something wrong?" my dad's voice interrupted my thoughts.

"I don't know... I had a dream about these girls back in the human world. They wore the same uniform I'm wearing now, and when one of the girls touched me, I felt an electric sensation. But I also feel connected to the other girl, even though we never touched," I explained softly, feeling a bit overwhelmed.
