"Secretary Hamilton?"

"Hm?" Alexander glanced up from the window of the carriage, turning to Washington, who had been sitting next to him.

"What's your take on the subject?" Washington asked.

Alexander blushed in embarrassment, stuttering.

"I- I'm sorry, sir, I didn't hear the conversation," Alexander said quickly, glaring at Jefferson as he laughed.

"It's alright, Hamilton. We were talking about-" Washington got cut off by the loud noise of thunder.

Alexander flinched, a strangled gasp leaving him.

"Ugh, it's stormy," Jefferson groaned.

"Alex? Will you be alright?" Washington murmured quietly, glancing at the boy in concern.

Alexander gave him a warning glance, tilting his head toward Jefferson and Madison.

"Burr's already spreading rumors of nepotism," Alexander muttered under his breath. "Be careful."

Washington scoffed. Jefferson and Madison glanced at him in confusion.

"It's fine," Alexander grumbled.

Jefferson rolled his eyes, turning back to the window.

Thunder roared across the darkening skies, making Alexander flinch once more.

"Hamilton, are you scared of storms or something?" Jefferson scoffed a laugh.

"No," Alexander retorted, "I was just caught off-guard."

"Sure," Jefferson replied sarcastically.

Washington cleared his throat, glowering at Jefferson. Jefferson shut up and turned back to the window of the carriage once again.

Alexander's breaths got heavy as rain began pouring down, lighting striking mercilessly.

"I can't do this," Alexander whispered desperately, "I can't."

"Yes, you can, Alex," Washington said firmly, "Think of Eliza, think of Angelica. Don't think about the storm."

There was a crack of thunder and the carriage shook, making Alexander whimper in fear and grab onto the seat.

Jefferson stared at him.

"Hamilton?" Jefferson asked incredulously.

"I can't, I can't, sir, I can't," Alexander breathed, desperation evident in his voice.

"Alex, calm down," Washington ordered, "Take deep breaths."

Alexander struggled as he attempted to take deep breaths, trembling with adrenaline and fear.

"When I was 17, a hurricane destroyed my town," Alexander shuddered, "I didn't drown. I couldn't seem to die."

Jefferson stared at Alexander, stunned.

"I was drowning, I just- I just wouldn't die," Alexander laughed hysterically.

"Alex, deep breaths," Washington commanded.

Alexander's breaths came quick and shallow, hyperventilating uncontrollably.

"I can't, I can't, I can't," Alexander sobbed through breaths.

Washington anxiously glanced out the window as thunder roared once again, and Alexander curled up tightly in fear.

"It's all fine, Alex," Washington told him gently.

The carriage shook as thunder grumbled strongly. Alexander looked up in fear, gripping the wall of the carriage and the seat tightly.

"Where are we right now?" Washington asked firmly, looking up at Jefferson and Madison. "Are we near Mount Vernon?"
