(A/N: The Schuylkill River incident!! I don't think there's anyone in this fandom who doesn't know what it is!)

Aaron Burr really hated his job sometimes.

He stood outside General Washington's tent.

"Sir?"

"Come in."

Burr stepped into the tent, hesitance in every move.

"How did the Schuylkill mission go?" Washington asked, not looking up from his papers.

"There was one casualty," Burr said hesitantly.

"Who is it? I'll write to his family," Washington said, unbothered.

"Alexander Hamilton."

Washington froze.

"What?" he snapped, looking up at Burr.

"Sir, Hamilton was shot by red coatas and fell into the river. He didn't resurface," Burr replied grimly.

"You're dismissed," Washington said sharply.

"Sir-"

"Dismissed, Burr."

Burr nodded and stepped out.

For a moment, he thought he heard a sob.

John Laurens ran toward Burr, dried tear tracks staining his face.

"How did he react?" Laurens asked quietly.

"I have never been dismissed faster," Burr chuckled humourlessly.

Laurens grimaced.

Alexander Hamilton shivered as he got to his feet, the chill of nightfall mixing badly with his drenched clothes, sopping wet.

He stumbled toward the camp in agony.

He heard yells and shouts, footsteps running toward him.

He felt numb from cold and pain.

As people ran toward him, he managed to choke out one weak word.

"Help."

And he promptly passed out.

"...he has early signs of hypothermia. There were numerous bullets embedded in his waist. He's currently stable. He desperately needs rest," somebody spoke.

Alexander groaned weakly, slowly opening his eyes to see Washington talking to a medic.

"Alex, how do you feel, son?" Washington questioned immediately.

"Exhausted," Alexander mumbled, "And cold."

"That's better than being dead," Washington sighed.

"Huh?"

"You were reported dead," Washington explained with grim amusement.

"Oh."

"'Oh'," Washington rolled his eyes.

Only Alexander could be counted dead and reply with 'oh'.

"Sorry," Alexander winced.

"Don't apologize, son," Washington smiled.

"Alexander!" John Laurens ran into the infirmary tent, followed by Lafayette.

Alexander smiled shyly at his boyfriends.

"You have some explaining to do."
