(about a month or two earlier. Aliana)
I had been getting ready in my room as I always do, having my maids brush through my hair, floating in the water as we talked and laughed. Mother and father told me it was to be a special day today, that there was a wonderful surprise and I had to look my best. I had my hair perfectly styled in the almost crownlike braid I could never seem to replicate by myself.
I was dressed in a white shell top with sparkling green and white pearls fashioned around the neckline. I had thought it was to be a beautiful day—a day where maybe my parents would finally allow me to go to the human realm.
but alas, of course, I was wrong.
I swam into the great room of the palace, it was confusing to meet here because this was where we always greeted our guests.
I saw my mother, looking radiant as always, skin a shade tanner than mine, braided brown hair with pearls and shells decorated throughout, smiling at me as though I was Elizabeth herself. (More on who that is next chapter.)
I saw Father standing close to her, a slight smile on his normally stoic face when he saw me.
It was them... Isla wasn't there. why...? she's normally not here on formal business. What's happening?
Then I saw him.
Sitting on the couch across my parents. Black hair, Pale skin, dark brown eyes.. almost.. black, tall, good build, formal clothing, perfect smile. He's beautiful.. but the more i look, the more his beauty unnerves me.
"Aliana, You look lovely dear." My mother says to me with a wide smile as i walk to her and sit beside her gracefully. "Thank you, Mother," I say with a polite smile, looking at my father slightly perplexed, please tell me what i think is happening isn't happening.
"Aliana," My father drawls. he has a deep serious voice and seems to do everything for the kingdom's interests. not anyone else's. and you cannot refuse the king. "This is Alastor Kane. He is the Duke of the Southern Ocean." He says calmly looking at me, his soft smile gone as Alastor looks at me with a smile that seems like he's trying to be seductive, but im just getting.. grossed out. "He is to be your fiance." He finally says.
"Hello, Princess Alaina Raine," Alastor says to me, as I look at him, trying desperately not to start yelling.
