I glance at him, absolutely bewildered. "F-Fiance?" I look to my father. His expression revels nothing to me, leaving me in the dark. I feel my heart sink lower than the Mariana trench.
Alastor keeps that soft smile on his abnormally pretty face. And the longer I look at him i can feel something in my core recoil in disgust. He seems perfect at a glance, too perfect. hair combed to perfection, clothing perfectly pressed. but the longer I look into his dark brown eyes, the darker- the hungrier- they seem. Like hes trying to eat me alive.
"Yes. Your fiance. We need to strengthen the bonds with the south, and we figured marriage would be the best option." My mother says with a wide smile, glancing to my father. They were a arranged marriage that ended up as a love match. I figure I will not be as fortunate.
"We were hoping that you two could get to know each other this week, and perhaps get married by the end of the month?" My mother says with a soft smile as though this isnt going too fast, too quickly.
"You couldn't have warned me? Couldnt have even tried?" I ask, filled with hurt. Why would they do this to me? Why wouldnt they warn me. I understand that because I'm the eldest it was likely for me to be married off.. but.. This soon? I'm barely 20!
"Aliana. I understand that this is rather.. sudden. But the sea needs a king, you cannot do it by yourself. You must have someone by your side." My father says looking at me, eyebrows narrowed slightly. Though I love him, hes always been rather old-fashioned. and It annoys me greatly some days.
"Father. Though I may understand that, doing all this without any warning to me is completely unfai-" I'm cut off by Alastor. "Princess. I know this is rather sudden, but my territory is in great need. This marriage would help them dearly."He says with a snide smirk. I cant help but narrow my eyes at him slightly, I know his family commonly empties their coffers for luxury's and taxes their people heavily just for the fun of it.
"I forgive you for interrupting your princess, duke." I say, looking at him. "Please care to remember your place. You are a guest, and have no right to interrupt me." I take a deep breath. "Please excuse me, I will need time to consider this.. Offer." I turn heading towards my bedroom silently fuming.
How dare he? My rank is above him, he has no right to inturrupt me, much less speak of his duchy's needs when his clothing is dripping in riches. His territory is heavily taxed, and he can lessen the taxes easily, simply by lessening his rich lifestyle. Allowing him to eat like a king while his people starve. The nerve of that man!
And in all honesty he unsettles me, His eyes black as midnight. And when he opened his mouth I saw a glimpse of teeth dark and blackened... before they miraculously turned pearly white. His mouth is too wide, almost unnervingly so.. His skin too pale, like he spends ages hiding from the sun at low depths.
I fear this marriage, and I hate to say it, but I may fear him even more.
