"I can't wait to see him again!" Polli was all cheery from seeing Jace, meanwhile I wanted to facepalm
'Like that matters, there are more interesting things....' Like the hooded man who suddenly saved us out of nowhere, his presence adds layers of mystery and suspicion. I mean, had he not appeared, I might have died-or at the very least, been bitten-before Jace could intervene. Or perhaps, this mysterious savior intentionally delayed his arrival? The timing of it all raises too many questions.
I wouldn't be able to tell if he's good or bad...
This is difficult. I'm only familiar with the main characters, and while Polli is just a minor figure in the grand scheme, I don't know the events that happened in between and how people not mentioned in the story influence it, even if it's minimal it makes all the difference, like a butterfly effect.
"What is so good about Jace that he has you this obsessed?" At this point I might as well ask, Jace treats most people pretty horribly after the mask is off, but he doesn't even bother wearing it around Polli, and after most other girls leave and scorn him once the facade disappears, Polli still likes him well after highschool before her death.
"It's none of your business!" She snapped all while brushing her hair and doing her skin routine, "Find a way to get us separated instead of asking useless questions!"
"It's not useless...he literally used you as bait..." and isn't that careless what got her dead in the first place? "That's very dangerous."
"Hmph! Like you know!" she scoffed, "He was officially certified as a hunter at 16, he knows what he's doing!"
Yeah like getting you killed....? Even if he would swoop down to save her, using a powerless person like Polli as bait was incredibly dangerous if not immoral, and since he knows Polli is delusional about him, this only makes it worse.
Great more work.
"Miss Politon?" I heard the door knock, it was probably a servant. "It's me, ginger."
"Come in." She was still finishing up doing her hair before bed, but Ginger, a personal maid, came in.
"It's about your half sister, Miss Remol?" She paused as that name was mentioned, and I know that Rubie was the last person she wanted to hear about, it could've been about landfill before it could've been about her. "Yes, since she graduated, she's going to a private highschool near here, so expect to see her often..."
"She is not my sister or.... anything to- ugh!" It seems Polli got so angry that the control had switched back to me, or perhaps she didn't want to blow on Ginger.
I have no clue on Polli's relationship with Rubie, or rather I don't know why Polli hates her so much, the most obvious reason seems to be jealousy that Ruby is more a high achiever and more well received by people, but at the same time, they live very separate lives and I don't think Ashley or Jace interacted with her either.
Rubie in the original was saved by her future husband and childhood friend Malachi and they lived to have a child named Ernesto, who was one of the main characters of the original timeline, which takes place 20 years after the genocide of silktown.
I sighed and walked towards Ginger, "Thanks Ginger, I appreciate you relying on this information."
"You're...you're welcome." She was slightly caught off guard by the shift in demeanor, possibly expecting her employer's daughter to blow up at the mention of her half sister she didn't want to acknowledge. "Dinner will be ready soon, do you want to be notified?"
"Yes ma'am." I nodded my head and closed the door, however, once I turned around, I saw something that wasn't there.
What's this...? On the paper it says, 'thank you' that's all it said, despite its simplicity, a shiver ran down my spine. "What...? Who would've-"
'Are you sure you didn't just scribble on it?' Polli seemed rather dismissive, still reeling from the earlier news, 'Security is tight, breaking into this residence is a death wish.'
Confident are you...? I definitely doubt I wrote this, the writing on the paper had a particular artistic flare, it was not there before, and yet I heard no sounds and nothing seemed out of place.
"But I-"
"-So hopefully everyone will just stay inside, schools will have to postpone after school activities, workplaces will have to have heightened security, and any plans to go out to eat or play will have to be done on a curfew, specifically by 6pm, we will be roaming the streets to make sure no one stays on the streets too long." I saw an older man, presumably a hunter announcing this information, then it went cut back to a female news anchor.
"Yes, the vampire new moon that happens once every other month strengthens vampires of all types and also acts as a portal of sorts for other entities, please keep safe."
'mmm...' I remembered this from reading the books, vampires were especially a challenge during the vampire new moon.
I'll keep it in mind because I don't want to be out at the wrong time, but I looked at the note again.
I was still suspicious so I taped it up on the wall for now, then I just brushed my teeth and prepared to go to bed.
____
"It's all your fault!" Ren, the older teenage protagonist who had brunette hair pointed at the older versions of Jace and Ashley, "How could you do all those horrible things and live with yourselves!? Because you torture someone and isolated them from experiencing society, you caused such a catastrophic event, and made everyone else's problem!""Ren, please!" Ashley tried to reason with him, "It is more complicated than you think, Hyunwoo was a born vampire, something far more dangerous than you could even imagine, and the silk incident proves this!"
"He was a born vampire? It seems you thought he was a weaker mixed vampire though, until it was too late." He turned away from them and they froze. "You call yourself a keen vampire hunter?"
"Ren! I won't have you talk to your mother that way-!" Jace tried to reprimand him.
"Father..." Ren turned to him, "I looked up to you, do you even feel remorse for the people you carelessly sacrificed while you requested they burn your sister in law alive?"
"..." it seems he was speechless, where did he get that information.
"And do you even feel like you failed your younger sister-" Ren pursed his lips, trying not to cry, "You know what, nevermind, she was nothing to you wasn't she? I bet you guys get no sleep at night, the world night considers you first class hunters, but you are far from heros."
Ren ran out, and no amount of protests and explanations were going to bring him back.
