As Patty's voice echoed through the house, announcing our arrival, I couldn't help but feel a sense of anticipation mingled with a hint of apprehension. With Reece and Jordan in tow, I followed Patty's confident strides, stepping into the familiar embrace of Mum's home.

"Oh, oh," Mum's voice rang out from the kitchen, punctuated by the clatter of dishes. I could practically hear her hurried footsteps as she rushed over to greet Patty, her excitement palpable.

"Patty!" Mum exclaimed, enveloping him in a tight hug and planting a loving kiss on his cheek, her maternal warmth washing over us all.

Caught off guard by Mum's sudden appearance, I couldn't suppress a chuckle at her enthusiastic welcome.

As Mum's attention turned to Reece, her eyes twinkled with mischief as she nudged my shoulder, her playful teasing evident. "Who's this?" she asked, her tone teasing. "OMG, is this your boyfriend?" she nudged me again, a mischievous glint in her eye.

Suppressing a laugh, I shook my head, knowing exactly where Mum's line of questioning was heading. "No, Mum," I replied with a playful roll of my eyes. "This is Reece, he's just a friend and he plays with Patty."

With a warm smile, Mum extended her hand to Reece, introducing herself as Carmel. Leaning in close, she whispered in my ear, loud enough for everyone to hear, "He's cute," accompanied by a cheeky wink.

As Mum's attention shifted to Jordan, her enthusiasm reached new heights. "Jordy!" she exclaimed, pulling him into a tight embrace. "OMG, your muscles are so big, are you seeing this, Liv?" she called out to me, her excitement contagious.

I couldn't help but sigh in mock exasperation at Mum's antics, knowing all too well what her enthusiastic praise meant.

Meanwhile, Dad sat comfortably on the couch, a knowing smile playing on his lips as he observed the family dynamics unfold.

As introductions were made and handshakes exchanged, Dad stood up to greet Jordan, extending his hand in a warm gesture of welcome.

"Jordan," Dad said, his voice carrying a sense of genuine warmth.

Patty took the initiative to introduce Reece to Dad, their handshake symbolizing a gesture of mutual respect and camaraderie.

With Mum's announcement of my sisters' impending arrival for dinner, the anticipation in the air only grew.

As I called out to my sisters, Tara and Bridie, their faces lit up with smiles as they rushed over to join us, returning my hug with equal warmth.

With Mum's lasagna now gracing the table, its savory aroma filled the room, teasing our senses and signaling the imminent feast ahead.

Tara's curious gaze fell upon Reece, her eyebrows raised inquisitively as she sought to learn more about the newcomer.

"So, who's this?" Tara's question hung in the air, directed at me as she gestured towards Reece.

With a warm smile, I introduced Reece to my sisters, their interest piqued by his presence at our family dinner.

"Is he?" Bridie's question followed, her tone laced with curiosity as she eyed Reece with intrigue.

With a nod, I confirmed Reece's status, his presence as my friend affirmed in the eyes of my sisters.

Understanding dawned on Bridie's face as she nodded in acknowledgment. "Oh, so o.b.f," she remarked, her words carrying the weight of Patty's unspoken rule.

Confusion clouded Reece's expression as he sought clarification. "What's happening?" he inquired, his brow furrowing in puzzlement.

Before I could respond, Tara interjected with a teasing smirk. "You're o.b.f, sadly," she teased, her playful tone echoing Bridie's earlier remark.
