"Mom?"

his bright innocent eyes navigate through the crowd, little footsteps masked by the thundering of adults, his tiny figure barely seen.

"Mom?..."

At the age of 8, Jang m/n was abandoned by his stepmother in the mall.

cold winds brushed against his skin as he ran around, hoping he might see the familiar road to his house.

his legs were shivering due to the shorts he was wearing, the only thing providing him warmth was the thin jacket he stole from Eli's wardrobe.

"Eli" he sob stumbling on his feet but never faltering in his steps.

"Eli!!" he cried out, wrapping the thin jacket around his tiny boy desperately.

His knees buckled making him fall, his cries echoed in the night, his small body was shaking from the cold air and fear of the danger that lurked in the dark.

His cries came to a halt when he noticed a pair of dirty pink shoes in his line of vision.

his head tilts up, tears sliding down his cheeks as relief washes over his body.

"why are you crying?" the girl no older than him asks, crouching down to meet his eyes.

Her brown hair was styled in a a bob cut, bangs framing her forehead and her big doe eyes staring down at him in curiosity.

"Mommy left me" he mumbled sadly, staring at his scratched palms.

"but my mommy didn't leave me?" m/n snapped at her in annoyance

"That's your mommy! besides she's not my real mommy!"

"so you can have a fake mommy?" the girl further inquired.

"no-not like I don't know!" he groaned, and all traces of sadness disappeared in an instant.

'girls and their cooties' he grumbled internally.

"Look, you aren't crying anymore"

"huh?" he glanced at her, she was smiling at him ever so sweetly.

"My name is Ji-a!" she extended her hands out, m/n hesitated, and held her index finger, shaking them slowly as he cringed.

"m/n"

"your name is weird"

"you're weird"

"no, I'm not you weirdo"

the two children gaze at each other, a sudden hatred spark in their hearts.

'she's/he's annoying'

"wanna go home?" she tugged on his wrist, urging him to his feet.

"home?" she nods happily and drags him.

"home!"

home.

I wanna go home.

"you're dumb, who brings strangers back home?"

"you're crying in the middle of the road, you're dumber"

"..."
