The tone of her voice was so comforting and intimidating at the same time, my spine straightened and I opened my eyes slowly. The person whom I just broke into her office, did not even bother to get out of her chair, she looked at me with condescension. "I am so sorry Robin, I will call security right away." The secretary looked like she was scared for her life. I felt guilty for putting her in a hard situationship, but then again, it wouldn't have come to this had she not ignored me for hours. "I said who are you?" She got out her chair, walking slowly towards me, I swallowed fearfully and tried not to faint. I glanced over her desk, "Tenne Robin" was written on her plaque. She kept getting closer and closer to the door, as if I was not standing in front of it, as if I was invisible. She walked right past me, the air became colder suddenly and I lost the rhythm of my breath. Robin closed the door, completely ignoring the secretary's pleas. She turned around and gave me a look as in "I will not ask you again". So I got myself together and replied to her. "I'm one of your clients. Well, potential clients. I mean I really need to be your client. I need a lawyer like Asap and I don't understand why it is so hard to hire a lawyer from a law firm. I have been waiting for months. And your rude, but the really pretty and well dressed secretary was ignoring me there so I thought, "Let me talk to the boss, who is you, I assume." She had a very uneasy but mesmerising grin on her face. I could not read anything from her eyes, was she judging me, or condescending me? "I mean what is your name?" "Oh, I'm Georgia Hein. And I do apologise for bursting in here, really." She walked back to her desk and took a business card. "You know, if my secretary told you that we do not have any available lawyers, that means we don't. Or we might not be able to support you with whatever your case may be." "But you are supposed to be the top law firm in town, hell, in the country. I don't believe it is possible that you have no lawyers that I can hire." She turned around, the grin had not left her face, although I was nervous if my words offended her, they clearly had no effect on her. "Ms. Hein, take my card, maybe we can have a chat over coffee and I can give you legal advice about your case, but I'm afraid I can not assign any of my lawyers to your case at the moment. With the elections coming up, all my staff are busy on national matters." "I don't want your coffee, I mean your legal advice. This... this is discrimination in the daylight, because you think my case won't win you enough money. I can sue you for this." "Seems a bit of a challenge, without a lawyer, don't you think?" "She left me with no response, tongue tied. "Take the card, I will try my best to be of help to you." She did not even bother to walk to me to hand me a card, she stayed leaning on her massive bureau. I walked over and took the card out of respect, with no intention to call her. This woman was antagonising me. When I looked up, her grin had turned into a genuine smile. Her eyes were kind, despite the look she was trying to put on. It made me believe in her good intentions. "Thank you". As I was walking out, I heard an ambulance siren and unconsciously went towards the window wall on the further wall in the room. I always get so worried when I hear the ambulance siren and immediately need to find out what is wrong. The ambulance went right past the building and the siren faded away. My heart was beating like a hammer and my hands were shaking. "You alright Ms.Hein?" Robin said standing right behind me which scared me even more. "Yes, I am sorry. I just heard the ambulance and..." "And" she said, as if it was the most peculiar thing to run towards the siren of an ambulance. "And.. you have an amazing view from here, you can see the whole city." "Almost" she said, in a spoiled manner, like half of the city was just not a good enough view for her. She wanted all of it. "Well, I will get out of your hair, for real this time". She did not laugh at my joke, I did not blame her, it was not very funny. It was the best I could considering how uncomfortable and overwhelmed I was. I went for the door just as fast as I had been running towards it minutes ago. As I walked down the long corridor, which looked shorter and less scary now, I saw the secretary crying. I wanted to say sorry, but she looked at me with so much hatred, that I decided to leave that building as soon as my feet could get me out, and never come back. Never.
