Advika was in the midst of her routine checkup of patients when her assistant Sam rushed towards her. "Mam..." Sam paused, catching her breath. "First, take a deep breath, then talk."
Sam complied, taking a deep breath before speaking. "Mam, your mother was calling you. You didn't pick up her call, and she said it's important."
Advika retrieved her phone and checked it, realizing it was on silent mode. Her eyes widened as she saw 15 missed calls from her mother. "I'm so dead," she thought to herself. She instructed Samantha, "Will you please check the vitals of the patients? I'll be there in 2 minutes."
Sam nodded, and Advika hurried into her cabin to call her mother. After just one ring, her mother picked up. "Jii maa."
"Where were you, Adu? I was so worried when you didn't pick up the call. Is everything alright?" her mother asked, sounding anxious.
"Haa maa, my phone was on silent, that's why," Advika replied.
"Can you please come home early today, like before your usual time? Your father and I need to discuss something with you," her mother requested.
"Maa, is everything alright? You sound nervous. What happened?" Advika inquired.
"Haa, Miss Detective. Ghar par aao, ab tumhe sab pata chal jayega," her mother responded before hanging up abruptly.
Nita's unexpected call to Advika, urging her to come home early, caught her off guard. Glancing at her phone, puzzled by the urgency in her father's voice, Advika sat in the hospital cafeteria with her two best friends, Aarohi and Myra. She furrowed her brow, wondering what could be so important.
"Is everything okay, Advika?" Myra asked, noticing her friend's concern.
Advika shook her head, her mind racing with possibilities. "I'm not sure. Mom just called, asking me to come home early from my shift. She sounded serious."
Aarohi leaned in, her expression curious. "Did she say why?"
Advika sighed, frustration creeping into her tone. "No, she didn't. That's what's bothering me. It's unlike her to be so cryptic."
Myra placed a reassuring hand on Advika's shoulder. "Don't worry too much. Maybe it's just something minor."
But Advika couldn't shake off the feeling of unease. With a resigned sigh, she gathered her belongings and bid her friends goodbye, promising to update them as soon as she knew more.
As she made her way home, Advika's mind buzzed with questions. What could have prompted her father to summon her like this? Was it something serious? She couldn't help but feel a sense of foreboding gnawing at her insides.
Upon reaching home, Advika found her parents waiting for her in the living room, their expressions grave. "What's going on, Mom, Dad? Why did you call me home early from my shift?" she asked, her voice tinged with concern.
Her mother motioned for her to sit beside them, her gaze heavy with emotion. "Advika, there's something we need to discuss with you," she began, her voice solemn.
Advika's heart skipped a beat, anticipation mingling with apprehension. "What is it? You're scaring me."
Taking a deep breath, Advika's father launched into an explanation, narrating everything that happened in his office, revealing the unexpected marriage proposal between Advika and Abhiraj, the scion of the Rathore family. Advika's eyes widened in shock as she absorbed the news, her mind reeling with disbelief.
"But Dad, I barely know Abhiraj," she protested, her voice tinged with uncertainty.
Her parents nodded, understanding her apprehension. "We know this comes as a surprise, but we believe it's worth considering. The Rathores are a respected family, and Abhiraj is a fine young man," her father explained.
Advika chewed her lip, her thoughts racing a mile a minute. She glanced at her parents, seeing the earnestness in their eyes. "I need some time to think about this," she finally said, her voice tinged with uncertainty.
Her parents nodded, placing comforting hands on her shoulders. "Of course, take all the time you need. But remember, we only want what's best for you, Advika."
With a heavy heart, Advika retreated to her room, the weight of her parents' words pressing down on her. She pulled out her phone and dialed Aarohi and Myra, her voice trembling as she recounted the unexpected turn of events. As she poured out her heart to her two best friends, she couldn't help but feel grateful for their unwavering support in this moment of uncertainty.
Myra and Aarohi listened intently over the phone as Advika recounted the unexpected marriage proposal and her parents' request for her to come home early. Their voices reflected a mix of shock, concern, and curiosity as they processed the information.
Myra's voice carried a tone of disbelief. "Oh my goodness, Advika! I can't believe this is happening. It's such a huge decision to make."
Aarohi's voice conveyed her concern. "Yeah, it sounds like a lot to take in. Are you okay, Advika? How do you feel about all of this
Advika sighed, feeling the weight of the situation over the phone line. "Honestly, I don't know how to feel. It's all so sudden, and I barely know Abhiraj. But my parents seem convinced that it's worth considering."Myra's voice offered reassurance. "Take your time to process everything, Advika. Your parents will understand if you need some space to think things through."Aarohi chimed in with agreement. "Yeah, don't rush into anything. Your happiness and well-being are what matter most."Advika expressed her gratitude through the phone. "Thanks, guys. I really needed to talk this out with you. I'll keep you updated on how things progress."Even though they were not physically together, the three friends shared a moment of solidarity over the phone, knowing that no matter what decision Advika made, she wouldn't be facing it alone.Feeling suffocated in her room due to the chaos in her mind, Advika went to the terrace. Lost in her thoughts, she didn't notice when her elder brother Abhimanyu came and sat beside her. He cleared his throat to get her attention."Hey, sis. Mind if I join you?" Abhimanyu asked.Advika looked up, surprised to see her brother beside her on the terrace. "Oh, Bhai! Of course, sit."Abhimanyu could sense Advika's unease.
"I heard about the proposal. It's got you rattled, hasn't it?"Advika nodded, her thoughts scattered like leaves in the wind. "Yeah, it's just... overwhelming, you know? I barely know Abhiraj."
Abhimanyu placed a comforting hand on her shoulder. "I get it. But you know Abhiraj better than you think. He's a great guy it s just because of some things he is not good at emotions and expressing himselfAdvika frowned, skepticism etched on her face. "How can you be so sure, manyu? You and Abhiraj are close, but I've only met him a handful of times."
Abhimanyu leaned back, gazing at the stars above. "True, but sometimes first impressions can be deceiving. Abhiraj might not wear his heart on his sleeve, but he's got a good heart nonetheless."
Advika mulled over his words, the weight of her parents' expectations heavy on her mind. "I suppose you're right. It's just hard to wrap my head around all of this."
Abhimanyu offered a reassuring smile. "Take your time, Advika. No one's rushing you into anything. Just remember, whatever decision you make, I've got your back."
Advika smiled gratefully, feeling a glimmer of hope amidst the uncertainty. "Thanks, manyu I needed."
As they sat together under the vast expanse of the night sky, the bond between the siblings grew stronger, a silent reassurance that no matter what challenges they faced, they would face them together.
