Chapter 2
As Trent is about to leave he sees John walk into the room, and hides next to the door. He listens in on the girl, and John's conversation.
"Sky, I know this might seem awkward for me to say, but I know your living conditions." John says sadly.
*living conditions?* Trent wonders.
"No you don't" Sky protests, "you don't know anything about me!"
"Now Sky, I didn't mean any harm by bringing this up, but upstairs there is a loft that you could-"
"I'M FINE!" Sky screams, and Trent can hear her coming toward the door.
Sky passes by Trent and locks eyes. She has tears in them, and after looking at Trent her face gets red and she spits, "mind your own damn business, freak." and runs out of the shop.
John walks out the door and spots Trent, wondering why Sky had said that. "She didn't mean those words, Trent. My apologies for her behavior, she's had a rough life." John explains.
"What's wrong? What did you mean by 'living conditions'?" Trent asks.
"I don't know whether I can tell you that."
"I want to help though."
"I know you would, you're a very nice young man but, I feel she is a lot of commitment."
"What do I have to lose?"
John smiles thinking that Trent is a famous surfer, he could lose a lot, but actually wouldn't care at all. "Actually I guess you could help her out. All you have to do is...."
✨✨✨
"Such bull shit!" Sky mutters to herself. She started walking along the beach kicking the sand as she grumbled on. She felt a light tap on the shoulder and swings around to face Trent.
"Oh god, not you again." She rolls her eyes, turns her back on him and starts walking again.
"Why do you have such a big problem with me?" Trent asks following her across the sand.
"Problem? Me have a problem!? No, I'm perfectly normal, it's everyone else that has a problem."
"You didn't have to be so mean to John."
Sky stops. Her eyes full of rage. She turns and looks at Trent straight in the face. "I would never do ANYTHING to hurt John, the things I do...it's...it's none of your damn business freak!"
"Freak? You think I'm a freak, when you were the one sleeping on the stairs last night."
Sky's face was full of embarrassment and rage. She couldn't believe this jerk. First he tries getting into her life, then calls her out as being a freak? "Who do you think you are honestly? You don't know me at all. You don't know a damn thing. So why are you following me?"
Trent looked at her in all seriousness. "I want you to come and live with me."
Sky looked at him flabbergasted. "You're...you're kidding me right? Who do you think I am some prostitute on the street you could just-"
"No! Not like that, think of it more like a job offer. I need someone like you to be my Noter."
"A...what!?"
"A Noter, someone who takes notices in things. I'm a famous surfer, but I'm just a rookie. I got a lot to learn and I need someone like you to watch me surf and pick out the wrong things that I do."
"This is unbelievable."
"I know right? I mean, I'm really lucky I found you."
"This is FUCKING unbelievable! FIRST you call me out on John, SECOND you called me a freak because I'm homeless, and THIRD you think I'm actually going to do as you say!?"
Trent felt awful. Nobody had yelled at him like this before, and all he wanted was to help. The girl really got under his skin, yet understood and related to her strangely. "Look, Sky; I think that's what John said, man. I just want to help you. I know what it's like. To not have anything to go back to, to be alone in the world and only relying on yourself, telling yourself that this is normal. That I'm normal, this is how everybody lives. Well it's not. And I can show you, there's so much out there that you don't know. Something better for you, and for me. Working at John's, although he's cool, it's not a career you want to have for the rest of your life. You can live on the beach, but not technically. Come with me. Honestly I was just like you a few years ago. I can put you together again and be the person you were before, because deep down I know there's a Sky that will become my good friend. I don't know, I just feel this connection with you. That I can talk to you normally, without a care in the world. Just...trust me."
Sky started balling. She bent her knees to the ground and cried her heart out. Her eyes were so blurry she couldn't tell where she was anymore. *how does this guy know so much shit about me* she grabbed her hair and started covering her face with it. "...jerk."
