As the weeks passed, Oliver and I slowly began to rebuild our fragile friendship, one hesitant conversation at a time. We would meet up for coffee between classes, sharing stories and laughter as we navigated the turbulent waters of university life together.

Despite my initial reservations, I found myself growing increasingly fond of Oliver with each passing day. Beneath his stoic exterior, he was kind and compassionate, always there to lend a listening ear or a comforting shoulder to lean on when I needed it most.

And yet, there were still moments when the specter of our complicated past would rear its ugly head, casting a shadow over our budding friendship. Whenever the conversation turned to my brother or the events that had driven a wedge between us, a palpable tension would fill the air between me and Oliver, threatening to shatter the fragile peace we had worked so hard to achieve.

But no matter how hard we tried to ignore the elephant in the room, it was always there, lurking in the shadows, waiting to pounce at the slightest provocation.

And then, one fateful evening, everything changed.

It was a crisp autumn night, the air tinged with the scent of fallen leaves and bonfires as I made my way back to my dorm room after a long day of classes. I had just finished my last assignment for the day and was looking forward to curling up with a good book and a steaming mug of hot chocolate, my favorite way to unwind after a stressful day.

But as I rounded the corner towards my dorm, I spotted Oliver standing in front of the building, his hands shoved deep into the pockets of his jacket as he stared up at the star-studded sky above.

For a moment, I hesitated, unsure of whether to approach him or not. But then, something in his posture, the way his shoulders slumped with exhaustion, tugged at my heartstrings, and before I knew it, I was standing beside him, the cool night air swirling around us like a cloak.

"Hey," I said softly, my voice barely above a whisper. "What are you doing out here all alone?"

Oliver jumped at the sound of my voice, his eyes widening in surprise as he turned to face me. "Oh, hey, Amalie. I was just... thinking."

I nodded, my gaze lingering on his face as I studied the troubled expression etched across his features. "About what?"

Oliver hesitated for a moment, his jaw working as if struggling to find the right words. "About us, I guess. About where we stand."

I frowned, my heart sinking at the somber note in his voice. "What do you mean?"

Oliver sighed, running a hand through his hair in frustration. "I mean... about our friendship. About whether it's worth fighting for."

I felt a surge of panic rise within me at his words, the fear of losing him threatening to consume me whole. "Of course it's worth fighting for. You're my friend, Oliver. You mean everything to me."

Oliver's eyes softened at my words, his expression melting into one of gratitude and relief. "You mean everything to me too, Amalie. And that's why I need to tell you something."

I held my breath as Oliver took a step closer, his gaze locking with mine as he searched my face for any sign of understanding.

"I think... I think I might be falling for you, Amalie," he confessed, his voice barely above a whisper. "And I know it's probably the worst possible timing, what with everything that's been going on between us, but I couldn't keep it bottled up inside any longer. I had to tell you."

I felt my heart skip a beat at his words, a rush of emotion flooding through me like a tidal wave. Could it be true? Could Oliver really have feelings for me, after everything we had been through?

But before I could respond, Oliver reached out and took my hand in his, his touch sending sparks flying up my arm.

"I understand if you don't feel the same way," he said softly, his voice tinged with uncertainty. "I just needed to tell you. I couldn't keep it a secret any longer."

I swallowed hard, my mind racing as I struggled to process the whirlwind of emotions coursing through me. Oliver was my brother's best friend, my sworn enemy, and yet... there was something undeniably magnetic about him, something that drew me to him like a moth to a flame.

And in that moment, I made a decision.

"I feel the same way, Oliver," I whispered, my voice barely audible over the pounding of my heart. "I've been falling for you too, ever since the day we met."

And with those words, our fate was sealed.

Little did I know, our journey was only just beginning.
