"I'm a nihilist, a soldier, an OCD machine. Or I'm a healthy baby girl who traded sunshine for disease."
CARMEN'S POV:
It's been a week since I've seen Ash, since I've seen... anyone, really.
I've just kinda been lying in bed, doing the bare minimum, and sneaking out in the middle of the night to skateboard.
Yeah, I skateboard. It's my escape from everything, even if it's just an hour. I just put in my headphones and go.
The only socializing I've done has been with my dad, and one time, I FaceTimed Alex and meant his other littlest sister, Mila. But that was six days ago. Until we called two days ago, where Mila was persistent that only she talked to me.
My dad is at work, so it scares me a little as I hear knocking on the door.
I get up from the couch, walking over to it. Its.. Alex. With four-year-old Mila in his arms.
"Hey, can you watch Mila for a couple of hours?" He asks. I can tell he's desperate.
"Yeah, c'mere babe." I say, taking Mila from him. She's a little small for her age, so she's pretty light.
"What's up?" I ask. He shakes his head dismissal.
"It's a long story, I'll tell you later." He says, "Thanks a lot, Carm." He says with an appreciative smile before jogging away.
I look at Mila.
"Well." I say. "You wanna... go to the park?" I ask. I really don't want to, but I really should, and I also don't want
"Yes!" She says excitedly.
"Okay, we'll go." I laugh. "But first, I need to get ready." I say.
I put Mila down before we both walk upstairs. I put something on for her to watch as I get ready.
I put on something basic today, a pair of flared jeans, a white t-shirt, and Airforce 1's.
I go back into my room, Milas still watching what I put on for her.
I go to my vanity and do my makeup. By the time I'm done, I see Mila looking up at me from my bed.
"Yeah?" I ask, looking at her through the mirror.
"Can you do mine?" She asks, putting my phone down.
"Your... makeup?" I ask. She nods.
I hesitate. I remember being in her position before. Their mom probably doesn't have time to teach Mila anything about make-up.
And by the time I got interested in makeup, my mom was no longer alive.
"C'mere." I say, sitting up from my seat. She sits down.
I start doing her makeup, I don't do too much, blush, mascara, lip gloss. I explain what everything is and what I'm doing along the way.
"They're we go, yo my mini me, Mila!" I say excitedly as she smiles at herself in the mirror.
"I look so pretty!" She says, completely beaming.
"Yeah, you do." I say, scooping her up and twirling her around.
"We all ready?" I ask, putting her down. She nods, so we walk to the park.
It's a nice summer day. It's around noon, but I haven't checked the time since I've gotten up.
I play with Mila at the park for a while before she plays by herself while I sit on a bench, watching her.
After a bit, she runs up to me.
