Chapter two

Adeline

We arrived home at around past four in the evening and went straight up to my room. As we entered we saw two neatly packed suitcases laid out on the bed with some of our clothes inside.

The door to my closet opened and my mom exited holding a bag with more clothes.

"Mom?" I said shocked to see her standing in my room when she was supposed to be at work. She looked at us before smiling.

"Girls you are back. I expected you to be back when l was already done but don't worry l am almost done" She said in her soft voice.

"Aunt aren't you supposed to be at work?" Ravana asked also confused.

"Oh l am but l wanted to help you guys pack for your trip and l couldn't just wait so l decided to come as early as l could." She said putting the clothes into the two suitcases and closing them.

She put the suitcases down and sat on my bed.

"You don't seem happy to see me" She said jokingly.

"Ofcourse we are aunt but you are always busy we don't want to be the reason of you missing some time at work" Ravana said giving my mom a hug.

I sighed as l asked over to them and sat on the other side of my mom before hugging the two of them.

"Okay now tell us the real reason you are back early" l said to my mom and she smiled.

"We received a letter from the host of the ball saying that it is now starting earlier than planned so you guys have to leave early so that you can make it in time and get some some sleep before the ball."

We smiled at her as we stood up and took our suitcases. Mom accompanied us downstairs as we carried our suitcases and arrived at the front door. Themaids took our bags and went outside with us. Our bags were put into the car that was already waiting for us outside. I turned and looked at my mom.

"Don't worry sweety everything is going to be fine okay?" She said engulfing me in a hug. I nodded at her statement and she smiled she then turned to Ravana who gave her a hug hug. The separated and she looked at Ravana and me.

"Girls be careful okay. I want you to come back in one piece nothing bad should happen okay?" She said looking at us worriedly and we nodded.

"Mom you are worrying to much what could possibly go wrong it's just a ball after all nothing will go wrong. Okay. Besides it's not like we are going to have dinner with the devil or something so don't worry" l said looking at her but her worry never faltered.

We turned and entered the car but l swear l heard her say "If only you knew how close to the truth you are Adeline"

I ignored it and entered the car. I closed the door and the driver started driving towards the airport.

"I am tired" complained Ravana as she sat down on my hotel bed. We had arrived in New York today at around 2am and went straight to bed. The party was to begin in a few hours so Ravana and l had to get ready.

"How are you tired you slept the whole day" l said to her. She rolled her eyes at me as l looked at her through the mirror.

"I have a question" l said looking straight into her eyes through the mirror.

"Yeah what is it?"

"Why is the ball starting at 12?" I asked and she froze. Her eyes widened for a split second before they became normal again.
