"In the great battles of life, the first step to victory is the desire to win."
Mahatma Gandhi.
Mia was facing the window in her room at the science building, the pyramidal edifice which, for that people, represented knowledge. She looked at the big tree in front of the square and remembered the visitor she received almost two millennia ago. Mia wondered if he had managed to solve his problem and if he would come back to visit her as he had promised. Mia even studied two of his main languages in the hope of pleasing him, but she was no longer so sure if he would ever show up. What she most wanted was to see him open a passage to another world and, unfortunately, she thought she would never have that curiosity satisfied. She never told anyone else, but since the visit of the wizard the scientist studied time and even made great advances in the area, managing to feed the computer with precious information, but that, after all, still did not solve the question asked two millennia ago.
She wouldn't be able to explain to anyone what exactly happened, but the fact is that the firing of the structural alteration alarm, the one that warned if a spaceship approached their world, coincided with the exact moment when she saw a slit form right next to the tree. To her, it seemed that someone or something had torn the local space-time to, within that slit that widened, emerge another continuum where a square surrounded by waterfalls and crystal buildings appeared. Even before she realized that she saw Igor's city, the two-eyed friend appeared next to three more companions, passing through the gap and closing the passage with a careless gesture, as if he had dismissed someone behind him.
Ecstatic, she ran to the exit in order to meet the wizard, who seemed not to have changed at all.
She approached and said, in Celtic:
"Hello, Igor, how good to see you again after so many centuries. So you managed to return to your time?"
"Hello, Mia." Igor smiled, leaning slightly. "As I promised, I came back to visit you, now in my time. This is Eduarda, my fiancee, Caroline, a Guardian of the Portals and Hernandez, her colleague and companion.
"Welcome to Axt," said the 'woman' making a bow similar to the wizard. "How good that you came, Igor. Let's go inside. I already warned Mog and he is on his way."
"And how is the situation here?" Igor asked, already in the guest room and sitting down with his companions. "I see your face much more calm and clear that I know about your marriage. Congratulations."
"How can you know?" she asked, very surprised. "That was last month!"
Igor laughed and told the brief passage he made, but that for them it would still be seven thousand years to happen, and went back to asking how things were.
"Your visit, almost two thousand cycles ago, changed a lot. The government became tolerant and mild, where Mog gained more strength and support, being today the main leader of the conclave. Despite this, we never received visitors again."
Mog appeared at that moment and greeted them, also pleased with the visit.
"Hail, Magnificent," he said, theatrical. "Be all very welcome."
"Please, just Igor is fine. You don't have to call me by the title."
"Of course, Igor," he smiled, a gesture very similar to the human equivalent. "What brings you here?"
"Several details, in fact," Igor replied, calmly. "The first is that I would like to maintain diplomatic relations with your world. You are the first civilization we have found that has a high degree of maturity, not to mention that you have the technology that allows traveling between planes and planets, something we never found in all these eras."
