2 hours earlier...

"Mmm..."
Izumi Midoriya groaned and lazily pushed herself into a sitting position.
She looked back at her clock. It read '6:25'. Her routine would have started by getting up and begin her training of OFA and maybe increase the strength of her telekinesis, but today, today she couldn't even bring herself to get up.
Ever since yesterday something was, off... with Hatsume crying and then apparently having a sick grandmother. And then her own mother and father didn't call her in the evening which they did on a regular basis as worried parents. It just couldn't click together. Something else was going on.
*Insert a ringtone*
She looked at her phone.
It was her dad.
"Dad? What's up? Why didn't you or mom call yesterday?"
"Yeah sorry sweetheart but at the time your mother was in distress and I needed to console her. Then the Hatsume family came to the house."
Her father sounded tired. More than normal...
"Mom was in distress? Aunty and uncle?"
She sat up.
"What happened?"
"I... I can't tell you..."
"Why can't you? Is it bad? If it is I can handle it."
"No it's... sorry what? Hang on sweetie. Indistinct mumbling... Izumi."
"Umm...Yes?"
Her father never said her name unless it was serious.
"We have something to tell you."
"Okay?"
"I'll place your mother on speakerphone... Hello can you hear us just fine?"
"Yeah I can hear you. So what's up? You guys are starting to freak me out."
She could hear her mother's shallow breathing accompanied by sniffles and sobbing as if she had been crying for hours.
"I-Izumi sniff... y-your b-broth-ther is al-alive."
"...what?"
"He-he's alive... my baby boy i-is alive..."
Her mother managed to choke out the last couple of words before she broke out into inconsolable sobbing.
"Inko!-"
The call was cut off and she was left alone to process what she just heard.
Tears slowly began to swell in her eyes.
'Big brother...is alive?'
Meanwhile with our protagonist.
She was currently walking down a hallway speaking with her two new companions.
Poppy was engaged in conversation with Mei getting to know her and Theodore or 'Catnap' kept quiet for most of the walk only occasionally asking a question or two every few minutes.
Mei had a bit of a shock when she first met Poppy but it quickly subsided after that and was able to engage in social interaction that she assumed was incapable of since for years she threw herself into her inventions.
"So Mei I've been meaning to ask this for a couple of weeks since we learned that you were coming here if you don't mind sharing? I know I've been chatting your ears off by now and-"
