Yes, I did it, Monty exclaims as he takes Clarke's wristband off, and it still works. What? Monty needed a working wristband, Clarke says, walking toward Finn. And you needed to punish your mother, Finn says. They're running out of air, and we need their help. My mother thinking I'm dead is only temporary, Clarke says. Not if I can't patch it through the dropship mainframe. I can do it. Monty says we'll be talking to The Ark by nightfall.
An hour later, Clarke and I get called into one of the tents for a meeting. When we get there, it's Octavia, Bellamy, and Jasper with a knife and some fingers on the table. Clarke says this knife was made of metal from the dropship. Who else knows about this? Bellamy asks. No one, we brought it here as soon as we found it, Ocativa says. It means the Grounders didn't kill Wells. It was one of us, I say. So, there's a murderer in the camp? Jasper asks. There's more than one murderer in this camp.
This isn't news. We need to keep it quiet; they think the grounders killed Wells, which is good for us, Bellamy says. Oh, good for you, you mean. What, keep people afraid, and they'll work for you? Is that it? Clarke says. Yeah. That's it. But it's good for all of us. Fear of the Grounders is building that wall. And besides, what will you do... just walk out there and ask the killer to step forward? You don't even know whose knife that is, Bellamy says. Oh, really? J.M. John Murphy. Clarke says the people have a right to know, pushing past him.
I know what you did and will pay for it. Recognize this knife, Clarke says. That's my knife. Where did you find it? Murphy asks. It was with Wells where you killed him, Clarke snarls. Come on. This is ridiculous. I don't have to answer to you.
Murphy says I don't have to answer to anyone, walking away from Clarke. Come again? Bellamy asks. Bellamy, I'm telling you, man. I didn't do this, but Murphy tries to reason. Is this the kind of society that we want? You say there should be no rules. Does that mean that we can kill each other without punishment? I say. I already told you. I didn't kill anyone. Murphy says. I say we float him, a delinquent says. Float him, the delinquents chant and run at him; they tie him up and then string a rope around his neck. Bellamy goes over to kill him, and Clarke tries to stop him, but he kicks the box out from under him. This is on you, princess. You should have kept your mouth shut, Bellamy says to Clarke.
Charlotte confesses to killing Wells, and I cut down Murphy. We take Charlotte to the tent. Why, Charlotte? Bellamy asks. Charlotte explains that I was just trying to slay my demons as you told me. What the hell is she talking about? I ask. She misunderstood me. Charlotte, that is not what I meant. Bellamy says. If you guys have any bright ideas, speak up. Now, you stay quiet. Bellamy says. Those are your boys out there, Finn says. Charlotte, hey, it's going to be okay. Just stay with them, Bellamy says before walking out of the tent to talk to Murphy.
Hey, Murphy! Murphy. It's over. Bellamy says after Murphy gets done yelling. Whatever you say, boss. Murphy says as he hits Bellamy in the head with a stick. Let's get the girl. Murphy walks over to the tent and opens it to see me alone. He turns around and yells Charlotte! Charlotte, I know you can hear me! And when I find you, you are going to pay! Come on. Murphy says. Everyone goes looking for her.
Bellamy! Stop! This has gone too far. Just calm down. We'll talk about this. Clarke says. I'm sick of listening to you talk, Murphy says, grabbing Clarke and putting a knife to her throat. No, please. Please don't hurt her, Charlotte says. Don't hurt her? Okay, I'll make you a deal. Murphy says you come with me right now; I will let her go. I can't let anyone else get hurt because of me, and she turns and jumps off the cliff.
Bellamy gets up and goes after Murphy, beating him up till I pull him off of Murphy. Get off me! He deserves to die, Bellamy says, No! We don't decide who lives and dies. Not down here. I say. I was wrong before, okay? You were right. Sometimes, it's dangerous to tell people the truth. But if we survive here, we can't just live by whatever we want. We need rules. Clarke says. And who makes those rules, huh? You? Bellamy asks. For now, we make the rules. Okay? Clarke says. So, what, then? We take him back and pretend it never happened. Bellamy asks, No! We banish him. I say. If I ever catch you near camp, we'll be back here. Understand? As for the rest of you, you can come back and follow me or go off with him to die. Your choice. Bellamy says. We get back to camp and tell everyone that Murphy is banished, and Clarke and I check on how it's going with Monty.
