Writing bc texting him
everything I didn't say isn't rightThe fact that Mike Wheeler and River Harrington haven't spoken in months freaked everyone out.
Now, the fact that they talked freaked them out even more.
Watching the two who stood by one another, Will watched his two best friends act as if they never had loved eachother. Like they didn't ache when thinking of eachother, and that's what scared him.
Because at a point in time, it was different. They'd quite literally die for one another, and it was easy to see that.
Now, it was like they couldn't care less. They talked, because they didn't care about their friendship. More so, because they wished they didn't care.
They were doing a good job of it recently though.
Mike watched River as she spoke at the mall, a blank expression on his face as if she wasn't the prettiest girl ever when she was passionate like this.
"My dad didn't even care!" She smiled widely, Max smiling with her as well. They just started summer, and that was the main topic within the group. Dustin and Andy were soon leaving, and they needed to make plans.
When the group fled from the movies, out the back way, Steve handed River his house keys, since she forgot her own and said goodbye.
That night they left one by one. First Max, then Lucas, Andy, Dustin, leaving the 3 others alone.
"Are you riding home with Will?" Mike turned as they waved to Dustin, River nodded, fixing her shorts, getting her bike ready, and he sighed.
"Alright, then." He hated the fact that she didn't look at him. The fact that she could go a full day without speaking to him, and he hated that it was his fault. As he took his own bike, Will stopped them, and he gulped.
"Why don't we all go?"
Mike and River grew quiet, shaking their heads. "I don't think that's a good idea." River spoke, getting on her bike.
"Yeah.." Mike agreed, and Will sighed.
"Just one time." Just one time he'd like to think nothing bad ever happened to them. That the three of them still hung out together, and enjoyed it.
"Fine." Mike spoke, getting on his bike as well and with that, Will nodded and they were off. The sun was almost fully set, and they rode down an empty road, surrounded by trees and accompanied by the nice breeze that summer brought to Hawkins.
River was in the front, and both boys were behind her, speaking amongst themselves. Nearing the Byers house, River stopped, waiting for them and once they got there, Will got off his bike, glancing to them both.
"Thanks you guys. I missed that." With that, he waved and the other two that stayed on their bikes grew quiet, because they missed it too.
The ride home was different, River's house was on the way to Mike's and the whole ride over they just quietly rode by each other's side. River never looked to Mike, and he glanced over various times.
Getting to River's was different too. Mike got off his bike, he walked with her to her door and she wanted to tell him to go away, but he was there - and she couldn't say anything.
"See you." She spoke, opening her door and walking in, again without a glance to him.
Mike stood there, his heart sinking just as he wished it wouldn't, especially when it came to her.
But he couldn't help it, because she wasn't just a pretty girl in the group, she was his best friend too.
He'd lost both.
