It all started August 23rd, 2003. First day of 10th grade. Everyone entered the room happy, some gloomy, some look like they haven't slept in ages. I personally was excited. It was my first day at a new school, I was fresh out of California High and now, we transferred to another state and campus, so I can get a fresh start. The bell rang and our adviser came to our homeroom and greeted us. "Good morning class I'm Mr. Peterson, and I'll be your adviser for the whole school year". Mr. Peterson then went on to introduce himself even more. It was our turn, he called us one by one. Then it was my turn to introduce my self, I stood there Infront of the class with confidence and spoke, "Hi, I'm Daniel Young, I'm 16 years old, my hobbies are reading, Skating, and playing drums. I was from L.A, but now my family and I have transferred here to San Francisco, Because my dad landed a job here in San Francisco." Then the teacher asked me a few questions on what it's like in L.A, then he sat me down. It was the girls turn. I got to say, none of my girl classmates are that attractive. But one girl really caught my attention. She introduced herself to the class "Hi I'm Summer Bridges, I'm 15 years old and my hobbies are sketching, reading, and cycling." She was just your ordinary girl, but there was something about her that just made her attractive. Maybe it was her smile, maybe it was her eyes, maybe it's how she talks. There was just something about Summer that made me infatuated over her. After the homeroom period, we had our recess and I approached Summer and introduced myself "Hi Summer, I don't really know anyone here in the campus yet, can you show me around?". Summer was kind and said to me "Oh, it's my pleasure, to give you a tour around the campus." I don't know if she was clueless or not, but when you're a new comer to a certain school. They give you a tour around the campus, before the school year starts. I guess I kind of tricked her to spend time with me, and she looked like she was having fun as well. I checked my watch and saw that it was almost time, I reminded her that it's almost time, so I said "We can just continue this later if you want. It's almost time." She then said to me "Catch me if you can!" then she just sprinted. I had to chase her down, so I won't be late either. When we arrived I was, so out of breath, but hopefully I didn't make it to obvious. Our adviser then gave us the official seat plan. I was seatmates with Summer. I was a bit happy, even if she just ran off from me for some reason, I guess she just didn't want to be late for class. When she sat beside me, I couldn't help but smile. I hid my smile of course. After classes, I asked her if she wants to go and eat something that's nearby. She agreed and we ate out. While we're eating she asked a few questions. First one was "How was your life in California?" I answered her "It wasn't really the best 16 years of my life. I was always getting picked on by the 'bigger' boys at my school. Let's just say I hope things will turn out different here." Second question she asked was "What do you like to do? When you're free?" I feel like she wasn't listening when I was introducing myself, but I didn't mind, so I still answered her question. "I mostly listen to music. Heard of a discman? I use that to listen to music that, I buy." and last question she asked was " If you had one hour left to live, what would you do?" Weird question, but I still answered it. "Probably make the most out of it. Jump around, do embarrassing stuff, basically try everything in those last minutes." I never got why she asked those questions, but I probably go down as one of the most least interesting people she ever talked to. After that conversation, we went our separate ways, on that day, I thought that was probably the only good conversation we'll ever have. Little did I know things were about to get interesting.
