"Things" Of The Past

Chapter 10: Prom Night

 I quickly went home to get ready for prom, it was 8:00pm, so I had about an hour to get ready, I wore the best clothes I had, wore my fanciest looking shoes and headed out and putted the weird looking discman in my pocket, along with the disc. I arrived at my school at 8:55pm, so you can say I was 5 minutes early. I drank and ate a bit, while waiting for Danica. I grabbed the weird looking discman and looked at it's specs for a while, it seriously looked like a discman disguised bomb, the disc on the other hand was just blank white and on the disc, there's writing on it. It says "One TIME use only!" while looking at it more someone called my name. It was Danica wearing a blue sparkling gown. She asked me "Care to dance? I mean if you don't want to I-" before she could finish her sentence, I hid the discman in my pocket, grabbed her hand and took her to the dance floor. She was looking more beautiful as usual. Maybe it was her hair, the outfit, or the smile she gave me. We slow danced on "Always by Atlantic Starr" while slow dancing, Danica asked me a question "Do I look good?" she said nervously. I replied with, "You don't, cause you're the star of this dancefloor." she leaned in closer to me and kissed me on the cheek. "Thank you for being my date tonight." she said after kissing me. We slow danced for at least 5 minutes. I never got how she didn't get tired of me just doing the same steps all over again. After slow dancing we sat down and talked for a while. She asked me, "So why did you accept my promposal? were you just feeling bad or?" I replied, "No, why would you think that?" She then said to me, "Cause what Lewis was talking about earlier, the girl you were in love with. Do you still like her or?" I replied to her question by saying, "I actually don't know. Ever got that feeling where you were afraid of things you don't like might happen, so you avoided it and now you're just in a pit of shame. That you shouldn't have been afraid and just risked it." Danica sat there and felt sorry for me. "I didn't know she means that much to you." She said. I replied with, "She did, but you know what. I'm just curious now on what I could've done on that day she left. Other than that, I just like her as a friend now and if we ever meet again. I just want to re-create the old times with her. As friends." She then said to me, "Is ICL still an option for you?" I giggled a little and said to her "That's where I'm planning to go now actually, someone convinced me to not waste the opportunity and just go for it." Danica then smiled at me and said, "Well, I guess I'll see you in 2 weeks."  I replied to her, "I guess so. Should we go now or?" She stood up and walked with me, with her arms wrapped around my shoulder. We went out of the venue and sat at a nearby bench. While sitting and staring the moonlight. Danica said to me "You know what, I'm going to listen to what you said earlier... You know, from the moment you and I started hanging out, You've shown me that I'm a woman worth giving time for. I don't want to romanticize it too much or anything, but you proved me wrong from the moment we met. I thought I encountered a hot tempered person who doesn't know how to love, but you showed me, I was wrong by being your friend... What I'm trying to say is, Daniel, I like you."  I was so overwhelmed by what she said, but I knew what to say to her, " I like you too, Danica. But I'm not prepared to enter into a relationship yet. Can you wait?" She smiled at me and said "As long as it's you, I'll wait for eternity." We both smiled at each other and held hands and promised that one day, we'll be together. At one point she slept on my shoulder as well, I removed my coat and placed it on her shoulders, so she doesn't get cold. David was right, I just needed to let the past go... 15 minutes went by, I woke her up and said, "Come on, let's take you home."  We walked to the nearest bus stop and took the bus. She was still sleepy, so I offered that she sleeps on my shoulder again. She then said to me "I got a better idea."  She then slept on my chest, so for some reason I just hugged her and she hugged my arm. We were basically cuddling, but that doesn't mean were already boyfriend and girlfriend. I know to myself it takes time before putting a label on it. Her stop was about to come, so I woke her up from her nap and said to her "You're stop is about to come up." She then yawned and thanked me. "So, I guess I'll see you in ICL?" she said. I smiled and said to her, "Guess so, see you there." the bus then stopped and before she got off she kissed me on the cheek one last time. "See you in 2 weeks!"  she said before getting off the bus. I smiled and waved her goodbye at the window. When I got home, I took of my clothes, took a bath, and checked my drawer for pajamas. While searching for pajamas. A paper bag fell off. Inside the paper bag was a note and three CD's. Then I remembered this was Summer's last gift to me and I promised her to open the note when I graduated. So I opened the note. It says,

Dear Daniel, if you're reading this at exactly the day you graduated, I want to say thank you for keeping your promise. I'm sorry if I'm not there too celebrate it with you. I wrote this letter to tell you that, when we were together, I had feelings for you. Every moment I spent with you, was special, but I was afraid that, if I told you, you won't see me the same way as you did before, so I chose the cowards way out and confessed on this note. I hope you enjoy the discs I gave you. I wish you a great future ahead Daniel, thank you for always being there, when I needed you most. Take care, Daniel, see you soon.
