The people of Kakariko at first were only confused and concerned when a horde of keese suddenly swooped down into the hair of several people in the plaza. The confusion turned to fear as a wave of aerocudas descended and began to scratch and claw at the people's heads. Then the fear turned to panic as the monster forces that surrounded the village revealed themselves on top of the mountains. Lynels had their bows trained on the citizens, and hinoxes held great boulders atop their heads with a readiness to crush the people below.
"Monsters!"
"There's so many!"
"What's going on!?"
The villagers attempted to flee. But they were all met with their paths to the Lanayru Road and the Dueling Peak Mountain blocked. Monsters not only stopped their retreat, but advanced forward, corralling the terrified people back into danger.
"Sahasra Slope is still open!" someone yelled. "This way!"
But just as they said it, three lynels came around the bend, all ridden by bokoblins. The people watched in terror as they approached, all of them stepping back into the plaza, surrounded on all sides by the invasion force that would surely skewer everyone present.
Suddenly, the monsters stopped. Even the keese and aerocudas flew off to take their perches in a safe spot. Eerie silence blanketed the village, aside from the flow of the nearby waterfall, and the frightened breathing of the villagers.
One of the bokoblins reached to his belt, and unrolled a leather parchment. He cleared his throat, and began reading.
"Blaghh! Uhglu raaahh keee! Klergh bleh bah!"
The villagers glanced at each other, unsure whether they should be scared or not.
"Blah kee ku rah glah!"
The villagers continued standing there, frozen and confused.
"Why aren't they cowering?" Sir Ugly the Revolting whispered to the lynel he was riding.
"All you're doing is making weird noises," the lynel whispered back.
"I'm just reading what's on the parchment!" Sir Ugly the Revolting shoved it in the lynel's face.
The lynel took it, and looked it over. "...You can't read, can you?"
"...Hey look man, reading is a useless skill that's never made anyone's life better."
The lynel sighed. He held up the parchment and began reading. "Humans of Kakariko Village! Hear these words! You have been randomly selected to have the honor of being the first invasion target of the newly crowned Demon King's nationwide conquest! To commemorate this momentous occasion, you all have the honor to have our army's demands personally made to you by the Demon King himself! Cower in fear before your brand new overlord, King Ganondorf Dragmire!"
"HAHAHAHA!"
The Demon King's voice rang out around the mountains, carried by the echo and plunging into the people's hearts. Suddenly, at the entrance to the village, a pillar of gloom erupted into the sky. The ground shook, and the force blew nearby monsters and villagers back several feet.
The terrified citizens huddled as close as they could. Parents hugged their quavering children. Babies and adults both struggled to not cry in their panic. Even the braver citizens took steps away from the outpouring of power, afraid to look the incarnation of evil in the eye.
"I see something!" one of the villagers shrieked.
"Oh gods, what sort of horrible demon rules over these abominations!?" another yelled.
