Dr. Marrel scribbled on the small piece of paper. His writing was messy and unkempt as he began to panic further. The dark corner he sat in got colder and colder as the sun set. The last bit of light he had was gone as the lockdown settled into the night.

His panicked note read;

"Mother and brother, I'm sorry.

I'm sorry I left you both for this job,

and I'm sorry that I said I would come back.

Because I won't.

I'm sorry that the last thing you'd seen of me was my forced smile,

with tears running down my face.

I'm sorry that I never properly said goodbye.

And I'm sorry that you'll never be able to say 'hello' to me again."

As he finished writing, he strained his eyes to read the note. Tears began falling as he read over it, but he stayed silent as to not alert anything. The crates he sat behind were the only thing keeping him out of sight, and alive.

The screams of his, now former, co-workers burned into his mind, and played on repeat in his head for hours. He sat silently and prayed. Prayed to whoever was out there that just maybe he could come out of this alive.

That maybe, just maybe, he could see his mother and his brother again. That he could go up to them and formerly apologize; not write his apology on a frail letter they would never see.
