Gin and Ale danced a delicate waltz of attraction and repulsion.
Over time, Ale's tension towards Gin only intensified, casting a shadow over his every thought and action.
During a school trip to the beach, where the class gathered for a game of volleyball beneath the sun-drenched sky, Ale remained completely dressed on the sidelines with his insecurities hitting his confidence like voracious beasts.
He couldn't bring himself into the game.
He feared judgment from his peers, his self-image marred by the harsh lens of comparison.
Gin's graceful movements and effortless skill on the volleyball court captivating Ale like a moth drawn to a flame.
With each toss of the ball and every powerful spike, he found himself mesmerized by her presence, his hazel eyes alight with an admiration he had never before experienced for any other human being.
Gin became the sole focus of his attention. Everybody, except her, noticed the true nature of that interest. The other kids began to put emphasis on Ale's dreamy expression - who was still completely dressed, lying on the deck.
Despite the beach and the sun, he didn't wear shorts and a shirt. The discomfort he expressed became soon the object of ridicule and abuse.
Was he ashamed of himself? It was the question they all have about him.
Sometimes, he adopted such strange and inconsistent attitudes, that clashed with the context.
Instead of avoiding any form of attention, he ended up jumping to the eye.
Ale's obsession lay bare for all to see, a silent testament to the depths of his longing and desire.
And though he remained hidden in the shadows, his admiration for her burned bright and fierce. An inferno within the confines of his heart.
She, on the other hand, had her insecurities. Despite few admirers, Gin couldn't shake the sense of unworthiness that clung to her like a stubborn shadow.
She was taller than her average age. She already had breasts and a height of over six feet. His physical form, longilinea but otherwise different, was the object of observation.
At that moment of her growth, she took the physical form that she would carry with her all her life - but she still didn't know.
She felt at times a freak show and could not correctly interpret the dynamics in which she was involved.
Ale's unrelenting interest in her, so palpable yet inexplicable, only served to exacerbate Gin's inner turmoil.
She found herself torn between the allure of his admiration and the shame that gnawed at her conscience, unable to reconcile her own feelings with the conflicting expectations of society.
Ale's ambivalent demeanor undermined her confidence further. His sudden retreats and apparent disgust let her questioning the validity of his apparent admiration.
She couldn't unravel the mystery of his intentions, nor could she silence the whispers of doubt that plagued her restless mind.
Ale found himself mesmerized by Gin's slender frame, her long, coppery brown curls cascading like a waterfall around her shoulders, and her fair skin, a testament to her Ashkenazi Jewish heritage, glowing in the sunlight.
But it wasn't just her physical attributes that captivated Ale. Beneath the surface, he sensed a depth and complexity that intrigued him, a mind as sharp as her features were delicate.
Her heritage added another layer of fascination, a connection to a culture and history that seemed to enrich her presence with an air of mystery.
He remained hesitant to approach her, his own insecurities holding him back from crossing the invisible barrier that separated them.
