The weeks following Ale's father's death turned out to be tragic. The death of that man, until then almost forgotten, took their lives.
Ale's obsessive thoughts focused on that missed phone call. That vibration, which had disturbed Gin so much, became the unmentionable detail of the whole affair. She could never have told him that he had missed his last chance to say goodbye to his father. The distance between them had made him almost forget he was a son, before anything else.
He died alone in his car. Probably his last gesture was to call his son. A tragic story, even more than Gin's father's illness. One could perhaps come to terms with illness rather than sudden death. The latter takes away everything, even the possibility of saying a "goodbye" that can fix everything.
In the process of metabolization that her boyfriend was facing, Gin felt lonely. She was. He spent weekends searching through his father's things. The intention was to dispose of them and find something to keep. The father's possible memories consisted of books, old photos and written thoughts. Nothing sufficiently amalgamated to reconstruct its history fully.
He was a poor man, but of great thoughts. Although he did not have a degree, he was able to read any kind of book, even technical. He could have easily discussed law with Gin's father. It was hard to believe that a man of such great culture had lived and died in disgrace.
During the week, Gin usually worked while Ale studied. He spent a maximum of one evening with her. The weekend was dedicated to his father. She felt a deep need to spend time with him, but he was only given distance. In the space between what she would have wanted and what he could give her, there were two different needs. The state of perpetual need for Gin, on one side, and the power of Ale, on the other.
