Omniscient
"Let me see those again man." Michael requested. Seated in the passenger side of the black sprinter van the crew had rode in tonight.
Jarvis handing Michael the set of night vision binoculars he had been using. Before leaning back into his seat at the driver's side. Looking over into the side mirror. And then peeping the scene.
Michael placed the binoculars to his nose. Squinting as the front door slowly came into view.
Although the crew had decided it was still too soon to place the plan they had drawn out the night before into motion; Michael couldn't rest knowing Shani was at Dani's whim.
So Michael, Jarvis, Stello and a couple of guys from Crack's crew decided to stake out the place for the night.
If it made Mike feel better then that's what would be done. Until they were sure they could get Shani out safely. Or at least as safely as possible.
"Mike you good?" Steelo asked for the umpteenth time tonight.
"Steez, I'm straight." Michael replied calmly. Because even though he was irritated by the constant questioning, he knew his best friend was simply worried about him.
Even though Michael was doing his best to keep a straight front, those who really knew him like Steelo, could easily tell that he was slowly coming apart at the seams.
Seeing Shani so helpless had left Michael full of guilt. He should've done more. Or so he thought.
He'd let her leave him without so much as a fight. Believed her rootless lies without question. Allowed her to step right into the lion's den. Right into the mouth of danger.
Why didn't he question it? How didn't he notice that something was off that night? Why hadn't he done more? These questions ran across his mind over and over again.
Shani and him were locked in. When she felt up, he felt up. When she felt down, he felt down. And when she was scared ... he was deadly.
Michael had always prided himself on his remarkable ability to protect and provide for his family. A trait his father had instilled in him as a young man growing up in Newark.
It was the one thing in life he took seriously. His innate ability to protect and provide for his family.
It was a part of his identity. Once Michael found family in you then you were guaranteed his loyalty.
And with that he'd show up for you again and again. Even in times of uncertainty.
Michael couldn't help but to feel as though he had failed Shani. He'd found family in her in more ways than one.
To be honest he'd found more than family in Shani. He had found a home. Tucked neatly away in the depths of Shani's heart.
He'd never forget the night they had met. How she walked in and shifted his entire world.
That strong feeling of knowing someone you never met that surrounded him as soon as his eyes fell on her.
Michael didn't believe in love at first sight. Why would he? The idea alone sounded crazy.
But there was no other way to describe what happened to him that night. He'd fallen for her. Without rhyme nor reason. Just fell.
