She scoffs at me while reapplying her already immaculate lipstick. "Everyone dies, Jonas. Sorry if I sink your lil' boat of delusion but oblivion is the only certain thing we know--well, and taxes. Can't forget about that now, can we?" She strokes my nose playfully. "I know I'd rather die young anyways. Get it over with and leave a beautiful corpse. Think of all the publicity I'd get from the papers."

I gape at her. "You're kidding, right?"

Applying powder to her cheeks, she cocks an eyebrow and leaves me in the silence of my thoughts.
