chapter one:
one year anniversary

MONDAY: October 27th, 2027

Waking up in a stranger's bed wasn't exactly how Benjamin pictured his morning. He barely remembered the night before, the constant bickering of loud voices and music as he danced until he couldn't breathe anymore. He remembered the taste of alcohol and the smell of sweat from lingering bodies.

The bright flashing lights as he let himself slip away into the darkness. He saw the images like a foggy storm, and no amount of blinking made him remember how he ended up here of all places. He felt the arm draped over his chest and he folded into himself as he turned to his side.

The sunlight was bright and then he heard the muffled noise of a television. He turned slightly and he could see the big boxed television in the corner of the room, in big bolded letters. THE ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF THE WOODSBORO HIGH SCHOOL TRAGEDY.

He felt throw up rise up his throat and he couldn't focus on a single thing as he sat up. He ignored the groan from beside him as he gripped his face and let out a shaky breath. He practically let himself fall off the bed as he grabbed his jeans off the ground and quickly threw them on before running forward to grab his hoodie and shoes.

"One year ago tragedy struck woodsboro highschool, what appeared to be a normal club turned deadly. When a killer emerged and took the life of four students. Angel Johnson, Nadia Montgomery, Gwendolyn Evans and Andy Williams. While none of the bodies were able to be recovered from the wreckage of the fire, a memorial was placed near the theater after the school was fully rebuilt".

Benjamin huffed as he grabbed his bag and then he made his way towards the door quietly. "I'm here with one of the survivors of the incident, Claire Maitland, she will be telling her side of the story when we return". Benjamin turned at the sound of movement, the boy who he couldn't remember the name of or let alone even meeting was staring at him in confusion.

His hair was a mess and he rubbed at his eyes as he let out a light yawn. "Running off already?" Benjamin rolled his eyes as he grabbed his belt from the ground. The static of the television made his head feel fuzzy. "Not much of a talker then, that's fine I guess".

Benjamin huffed as he walked towards the bed and grabbed his eyepatch that for some reason fell off. "Oh don't worry about the eye, it looks pretty cool actually. How exactly did it end up like that?".

Benjamin slipped the patch over his eye "like you don't know" his voice was low as he looked down at the boy. Practically everyone in woodsboro knew about the boy's story, literally everyone. He couldn't walk down a sidewalk without someone looking at him and calling him a murderer.
