The sound of your alarm going off was what awoke you from your slumber. But, the only thing you could be bothered to do was shut it off, and turn to the other side of your bed, nestle into your covers once more, and attempt to fall asleep again.

But just as you had begun to drift off, there was a knock on your door. The person at it was not banging against it, but they were certainly trying to make sure you heard them. And so you let out a soft, "Come in."

It sounded more like a tired groan, since you were exhausted. And you were thankful that the person had heard you, as they opened your door and walked over to your bed. You opened your eyes to peek at who it was, only to find your dad standing above you with his hands on his hips, and a fond- yet exasperated- expression on his face.

"Don't tell me you forgot what today is," He said, his eyes staring at the calendar you had sitting at your bedside table, "You even had it circled on your calendar, and you couldn't stop babbling about it at dinner last night."

You stared at him ludicrously, you would've remembered if there was something important today. Wouldn't you? It wasn't your birthday, nor was there any big event, like a family trip, and that tended to be the only thing to get you to ramble at dinner. You knew the prior was true because you had just recently celebrated your tenth birthday, and you also knew there weren't any family trips scheduled for the near future. That was due to the fact that you were going to be starting your Pokémon journey soon-

Oh.

It wasn't about your birthday, though it did relate to it. Today was the day Professor Oak had invited you, and a few other kids, to get their first Pokémon. You'd even set your alarm for earlier than usually, so you wouldn't end up being late. How had you forgotten?

You pushed your covers off of you and checked your calendar. Only to find that, yes, today was in fact the day you were supposed to receive your starter and begin your journey. You ushered your dad out of the room so you could get ready, putting on the clothes you had set out in the bathroom- which was connected to your bedroom- the day prior.

After finishing up your typical morning routine, you made your way downstairs. Where your dad was waiting, with a meal he had packed for you for the road, and something small for breakfast.

You said your goodbyes to him quickly, after a forced goodbye hug, and you could still hear him telling you to be safe and call him as you exited your house and made your way down the dirt path towards Professor Oak's lab.

You ate some of the breakfast on your way over there, as you fell into a normal walking pace. The sun had risen only a little while ago, but you wanted to make sure you were there on time. Even though the invitation had no set time for arrival, you had assumed that everyone would get there early. And arriving late would mean not getting the starter you wanted- or maybe even not getting one at all.

The other reason for your early departure time was because your house was located right on the outskirts of Pallet Town, so you had assumed that you were further from the lab than most people going were. Because anyone not from Pallet could always drive in, or use a guardians Pokémon. But your dad thought that was unnecessary due to the walking distance only being fifteen minutes.

You watch a flock of Spearow fly above you, and you watch them until they're nothing more than specks in the sky. Something about seeing them makes you even more excited, even if those aren't the rarest Pokémon you've ever seen, because they're apart of the world you're going to start exploring soon. Without the guidance of your parents. And, sure, it's daunting, but you're still more excited than anything. You're sure it will be fun.

The world is full of rare Pokémon, many you've only seen in books. And you can't wait to find them. You don't need to catch them, but you've always been curious as to how some live in the environments they're seen in, or how some need certain stones to evolve. And now you'll finally get that chance. After you get your starter and begin your journey.
